ganesh Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Their order of preference was: 1. Belichek (Won too many games in the playoffs + 3-0 in superbowls) 2. Reid (Took the team to 4 straing NFC championship game + 0-1 superbowl) 3. Billick (Won one superbowl) 4. Holmgren (Won one superbowl) 5. Dungy (????? No reason given) 6. Smith (0-1 in the playoffs) 7. Schottenheimer (Too many losses in the playoffs) 8. Sean Peyton (Incomplete, no playoffs yet). My list is different.... 1. Belichek (Best of the Best) 2. Holmgren (1-0 in superbowl and took another team to the superbowl and won many PGs) 3. Reid (While he lost the SB, he still won many games) 4. Billick (Other than the SB, they have done nothing with this guy as the HC). 5. Schotenhiemer (While he may have lost many games, he has also won many). 6. Dungy (This guy has not won a single BIG game). 7. Smith (If Peyton is 8, Smith should be 7 just for the inexperience) 9. Peyton (Rightfully at 8, since he has not coached in a playoff game). Your comments.

Your comments. i'd put schottenheimer higher. never forget that if ernest byner hadn't freaking fumbled while crossing the goal line, the browns would have made the super bowl. that wasn't bad coaching - it was proverbial bad luck.

So the difference between Bill Belichick being a great Super Bowl winning coach and Marv Levy being a great Super Bowl winning coach was luck? Adam Vinateri making a 45+ FG with a second left by a foot or Scott Norwood missing a 45+ FG with a second left by a foot? Actually, I believe that to be true myself. At least their first.

I agree. Schottenheimer should be middle of the pack. Andy reid a bit lower.

Did Vinatieri ever attempt a real pressure kick like Norwood did during that Super Bowl? From my recollection, all of Vinatieri's playoff/big-game game winners have come with the game tied, not when his team was trailing. I think that makes a difference--and maybe excuses Norwood (a little)
