Thanks for bringing this up. I would like to use electric. Gillette cartridges are getting hella !@#$ing expensive. And the electrics I see, for the most part, tend to advertise that the blade discs last a year.

If this Braun electric really is the !@#$ing sh--, then I will have to consider it. And no, when it comes to blades, I'm not considering downgrading from the Fusion, either. They are the best blade.

Sidebar: how long should you go before you switch blades. I can not find this information anywhere. I know Gillette is not going to tell you, or, if they were, they would say after each use, but can anyone answer this for me? I mean for just shaving your face, too. not neck, legs, weener, armpits, toungue or anything else, just normal use. This has been bugging me for years. There was an attempt to answer this on TBD a couple of years ago, but I can't remember Drew Bledsoe's name much less what people wrote back then. I suck major !@#$ when it comes to remembering stuff like that.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think there can be a set time, it depends on how it feels on your face, how often you shave, and what kind of razor you use. I use the Fusion too, I shave 5 days a week, and I would say I change the razor about once every 2 1/2 - 3 weeks. That's partly why I don't freak out about the price of the blades so much. Back in the day when I used single blade stuff, I would go through around 5 a month. It's still more expensive for the Fusion, but add in the better shave and it's worth it.

I used the Mach 3 (and then the battery vibrating one) until recently. I just switched to an old-fashioned double-edged razor and couldn't be happier. I use a good shaving cream (That comes in a tub) and a brush, lather up, and get the best shave of my life with less irritation than I ever got using the Mach3. For the first week, I got a nick here or there but not anymore. Now I just get the closest shave ever.

Regarding blade change, I changed the old Mach3 once a week. I do the same with my double-edged blade. The difference is that with the double edged blade, each blade costs about 50 cents. With the Mach 3s, each blade was about 2.50.

I've a cheap electric with a trimmer for back of neck and evening sideburns. Otherwise, blade.

Currently using a pink-handled "Lady" Schick Quattro...

I bought 2 of those Christmas gift-packs, because at ten bucks for the handle and six quattro cartridges it was only a dollar more than a four-pack of quattro blades. It also included a wood foot massage roller and a manicure kit, which I put into the Goodwill bag.

You cheapo! :bag:

Back years ago they used to leave blades out on the self... My grandfather was such a tight wad that he used to get the "five finger discount"... Till this day, my father claims that is why they moved them to behind the counter at the drugstore years ago!

Thank God for electronic tagging now I guess...

BTW... I use a blade... For some reason I like the old two blade Gillette Sensor because it is easy to get in tight spots... The Mach 3 was "too flat" and wide when naving under the nose... I hear the new one has a single blade on one side... Got to try that... I hate switching razors...

Anyway... I am like a Chia Pet... I smile and my beard grows... I just sahve every 4 or 5 days, needed it or not! ... Really, best part of work is that I can literally roll out of bed and go...

An electric would be a nightmare because my beard is so thick and course... I get 2-3 hairs that are almost in one follicle! I find it better not to shave until at LEAST 3 days or so... I just shave in the shower too (with one of those Sharper Image mirror thingys... Anti-fog)...

Anyway... An old trick to save on blades as learned from my in-laws is to keep the blade in mineral oil when not in use... A cost saver I never really tried...
