2003's Buffalo Bills Offseason

2003

Recommended Posts

Re-Sign- Mike Gandy (inexpensive and one of the leaders of the o-line), Anthony Hargrove (very young (23), extremely enthusiastic, and will continue to improve under Kollar), Duke Preston (young and he will continue to compete for that RG spot), Kiwaukee Thomas (a veteran with a lot of heart and impressed many this year), Anthony Thomas (plays with tons of heart and solid backup).

Signings-

DT Alfonso Boone (veteran, who was drafted under Jauron, and puts up decent numbers year in and year out. He would fit in nicely with the Bills DT rotation).

CB Nick Harper (veteran, solid tackler, hard nosed player. This guy has Buffalo written all over him).

RB Domic Rhodes (he will come in and take Willis's spot).

OG Montrae Holland (young, very strong guard, who will compete for the RG spot).

TE Daniel Graham (solid blocker who can catch. He and Royal would make great two TE sets.)

I don't want to come across too strong but.....what you propose sort of sucks.

You'd go with the older slow Boone over the young up & comer Scott?(We need to get a stud at DT, not just a guy who can be alright)

Grab a 2nd tier(at best) FA CB to replace NC?

Waist time & money replacing WM when not only is he in a contract year(motivation) but you could tag him the following year & get your trade then......and you want WMs replacement to be a guy that the Colts didn't want???? They drafted Addai so as to not rely on Rhodes.

You don't think we perhaps need a decent OG?????

Draft none & pick up RFA Holland????......who hasn't started all season & lost his job to a 4th round pick(Evans)?????

Graham might be OK but.....the guy hasn't seen a full NFL season.

Did you not think that with ALL the money under the cap that we might either spend a little on re-signing NC.....or perhaps a decent FA? It's like you've gone out of your way to ignore every 'good' FA available.

I think we'll re-sign Clements...honestly I think we will

I think we re-sign Kelsey

I think we re-sign Mike gandy too

I think we let Fletcher walk

I think we'll sign a TE like Graham, I like him, he is a good "move" TE, he can block for the backfield

and I think we'll sign one FA Linemen, I am hoping it will be Steinbach, but I think they'll franchise him.

I don't think we'll release/trade McGahee-the reason is simple this is not TD, who seems to hold grudges, this is Marv, and he'll calm the waters and get the best season out of McGahee.

I could also see us signing another DT, I think the future is Kyle Williams....an off season of getting stronger and learning more will help. I would love to see us sign Smith, or even Scott, both are athletic big men.

I am praying that Ralph opens his wallet a little more.

I think you are Right on with Davis in round 1, he is a special type of ILB, and could start as a rookie.

2-I like your pick, however I've seen him as high as in the teens round 1, this is a very deep WR draft, so who knows, I also like Bowe and maybe later Steve Smith who is an ideal 2nd WR without the height.

3-I can't see Irons falling that far, I think he's a 2nd rounder, maybe even a late 1st....I like Tony Hunt here, or Kyle young here, if he was still on the board, Kyle Young is a special type, he could play Guard or RT too. If he was on the board here and we don't draft him, it might be Marv's biggest mistake, I feel he's the number 1 center, and a first rounder.

I would love your draft, but I am hoping for more quality and less quantity in Free agency

If the only improvement we make to our guards is signing Holland, we have had a failed off season. This is our biggest need by far, and I don't have to specify who we get for each position or where we draft, but we need to make getting the most guard improvement we can.

Maybe Gandy can stay if we decide for a big upgrade at the other guard and don't have the resources/players available to upgrade Gandy and get good value, but I would rather see Gandy replaced as a starter along with Preston (no brainer).

I also would not want to upgrade center before a second guard, with Fowler having Preston and Merz behind him already and think an upgrade here might be more luxury than necessity compared ot the rest of the line

I agree but Holland's shown some pretty good stats when has had the chance to start. As he's only given up 5.5 sacks in 30 starts (52 games played) and committed 9 penalties. I think he'd be an ideal guy off the bench or security blanket if we draft a RG prospect who struggles.
