NavyBillsFan Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 3 years was their longest non-playoff push.... We have not seen a 11-5 record since like 93? Wonder who is to blame here..... Pay a staff that is not fresh from retardville and there you go.... You got a team! http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2717313 Pittsburgh Steelers 1992 11-5 0-1 1993 9-7 0-1 1994 12-4 1-1 1995 11-5 2-1 1996 10-6 1-1 1997 11-5 1-1 1998 7-9 None 1999 6-10 None 2000 9-7 None 2001 13-3 1-1 2002 10-5-1 1-1 2003 6-10 None 2004 15-1 1-1 2005 11-5 4-0* 2006 8-8 None Totals 149-90-1 12-9
JimBob2232 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 On the flip side, If the next year or two doesnt go as well as planned...Buffalo may be a landing spot for cower in 2008.

If local reports are true, Cowher wants to be paid like Mike in Seattle at about 7-8M a year, considering that Cowher also has sort of a dual GM/Coach role here in Pittsburgh. He has a director of personnel, but no GM to report to. I don't think the Bills will ever pay that much for a coach.

How long did it take those teams to re-build? There are plenty of examples to support either side of the debate. Also if you look at the records pittsburgh had, they didn't "re-build" as much as they just went through some transition years. They never hit rock bottom and needed to re-build an entire roster. There is no time frame for how long it should take a team to rebuild. You hope it takes very little time, but sometimes it doesn't work that way and requires some time. The Bills finally look like they are back on the right track now and will be competitive soon.

GIT R DONE Ralph! BTW, I like Juron and hope the team does well under him....i'm just sayin'

Im keeping my head up. But we do these late year pushes all the time.... Besides that, who the hell did we beat thats worth saying were doing great.... We still cant bury teams and we still cant win big ball games... Whats to look to? Same crap, every season...
apuszczalowski Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 3 of our 9 loses came by no more then 6 points. The team was in almost every game until the end and did better then expected. Its not like last year at this time when we all knew this team needed a major overhaul, we are no focusing in on a couple of positions instead of the entire team. Much brighter outlook now then previous seasons. This year is different then MM's first season when we went out with a bang because in that season we were a team that had talent and was expected to compete and missed the playoffs due to losing to some 3rd stringers This seasons team was not supposed to be competitive and was supposed to lack talent, yet they played hard and made a late run, losing some really close games. You can't say it hurt as much losing to the Ravens the way they did (keeping the offence to only field goals and giving up only one TD on defence) compared to the debacle against Pittsburgh a couple seasons ago.
marauderswr80 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 On the flip side, If the next year or two doesnt go as well as planned...Buffalo may be a landing spot for cower in 2008. yep! In LA!
nodnarb Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 It also helps when you get 4 games per year to beat up on the browns and (pre-Palmer) Bengals. Not to diminish what Cowher has done cuz I think he's a great coach, but all things considered, the Bills in the past 6 years have played in an unrelentingly difficult division. To find the true status of teams I think you need to consider strength of schedule each year, and that would give the Bills a little positive padding on their record and the Steelers a little negative padding.
The Poojer Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 it also doesn't hurt to follow chuck noll...sadly we have had a coaching carousel and nothing established since marv and jimbo left 3 years was their longest non-playoff push....
