ExiledInIllinois
x2 Oh... I assume, prescribed hours is how you display your flag... We don't take ours down anymore because someone is always here and the staff is lit. Heck... Come to think about it... We never did, just put a show on for the bosses... I remember putting foot pprints in the fresh snow in the winter time to make it look like it was being taken down... And at 1/2 staff... NO OTHER FLAG CAN BE ON THE SAME STAFF (that means in our case, the Corps castle is removed). If you can't fly it at 1/2 staff (ie: on a wall)... You can put a black-ribbon at the top corner (field of blue).

I did put it at half staff, so it looks like it'll stay there until the 25th of Jan. I did remove my other flag from the pole, a Bills flag of course. Bungee Jumper
Oh... That is an excerpt from AR 600-25. Still applies to the rest of us, right? I've been wondering how long it stays at half-staff as well. Thanks for the info.

Anyway Bungee... I would assume the Army reg is the same as the civilan way to fly the flag... I do remeber this (30 day) thing from my Boy Scout years and Citizenship in the Country MB... I think?? The light, I think is a technicality Jack... Really the staff should have its own fixture... Yet, nowadays so many people "fly" the flag in many ways... The light thingy can't be worse than how some "fly" the flag nowadays... Car stickers, shirts, inclement weather, etc... I wouldn't worry about a light fixture... It's amazing how many wrong ways the image of the flag is being used. One example I remember is every July 4th stores have the flag napkins. That was a gross mis-use of the flag image, since you're basically "soiling and destroying" an image of the American flag by using the napkin as it's meant to be used. People can call me out for what I believe politically and all that... But, I never let a flag touch the gound and always fold it tri-fold, blue/stars out... Always remove a soiled one... The way to dispose of one is to burn it... I will still side with anybody's right to do the opposite though!

Marv's Neighbor
I gave Jerry Ford a ride home from Dulles Airport! It was either 1971 or 1972, his flight got in late, and nobody was there to meet him. (How times have changed!) We both lived in Alexandria VA. and my boss let me leave early to take him home. The main thing I remember about our conversation was how he kept telling me what a great guy Richard Nixon was! Personally, I always thought Nixon was a horse's a*s, but for once I kept my feelings to myself. He was a good man, and I voted for him in 1976. I did NOT vote for Nixon in 70 or 74 and was too young to to vote against him when JFK won in 1960. RIP Jerry!
