Of all the times you have read "x-mas" you could probably count on one hand the number of people who would recite anything from that wiki entry.

I don't think it is ever written with malicious intent, but never-the-less it has a bit of a secular feel to it and thus tends to aggravate thhose who actually celebrate the holiday beyond buying a bunch of crap and shoveling it out.
