Rape Charges Dropped in Duke Lacrosse Case

Durham — Defense attorneys called Friday for all charges to be dismissed against three Duke University lacrosse players after prosecutors dropped rape charges against them.

Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong said he didn't have enough evidence to proceed with a rape case but said he plans to take the players to trial on kidnapping and sexual offense charges.

Reade Seligmann, 20, Collin Finnerty, 20, and David Evans, 23, were indicted last spring after a North Carolina Central University student told police she was beaten and raped by three lacrosse players while performing as a stripper at a March 13 team party.

The players have denied any wrongdoing in the case, which has split the Durham community in recent months.

Defense attorneys have repeatedly hammered the prosecution's case, questioning the woman's identification of the three players and her varying statements to police and criticizing a DNA report that they said proved none of the lacrosse players touched the woman.

Nifong has never talked to the woman about the details of the incident, although investigators from his office and the Durham Police Department have interviewed her repeatedly over the past nine months.

The 28-year-old woman is pregnant and is due to deliver in February. A judge last week ordered her and the three players to undergo a paternity test, but Nifong and defense attorneys said they're certain none of the players is the baby's father.

hmmm, the black panther were so quick to protest march when this story broke, wonder were they are at today?

Jesse Jackson and the others like him left their actual concern for civil rights back in the 60's. He is a politician now, the same as any number of crooked white politicos you see on a given day. And if there is one thing politicians love, its a photo opportunity. Sheeit, Jesse is in the news pretty much every time there is a legal action involving black person(s) against white person(s).

Don't be surprised, its all about the $$$ baby.

I can't tell if she is more sexist or racist.

But obviously the guys who have been convicted of NOTHING should continue to be suspended from school because racism and sexism simply exist. Since they are white and men, quite obviously they are the root cause of all that is bad on the Duke campus. :bag:
