Guaranteed Super Bowl Win

With all this talk about players playing their best during contract years, I came up with a brilliant idea. What if we signed every player on our roster to a deal that ended at the same time. That way, one year, every single one of our guys would be in a contract year. Can you imagine? JP with 6,000 yards passing, Clements has 31 interceptions, and Mr. "Me First" Willis would most certainly finish with at least 3,000 yards rushing and 50 tds.

All of our guys would be going all out every week to make sure their contract for the next year is HUGE. That way, we'd easily have the best team in the league and win the super bowl. Sure we wouldn't be able to re-sign most of them and would have to field a "Major League" type team for a few years, but who cares. We'd be champs!

Someone send this to Marv quick. He's got a lot of renegotiating to do.

Didn't the Redskins try something similar a few years ago, paying outrageous amounts to free agents to get a SB? I think it was one of Danny Snyders first years of being an owner.

Nah you are missing the spirit of the plan. You don't give them large contracts. You give them small contracts that all end at the same time. That way they all have the incentive to play lights out football!

Close, but not quite

You give them one year, small incentive laden contracts that will become larger only if their stats get larger. Of course this could fail because everyone will only be playing for themselves and their pockets first. You think JP would want to handoff to Willis instead of padding his stats by throwing the ball all the time?

The best way to do this (in all sports) is to have a minimum base salary based on positions. Then include incentives and goals for the players to reach to raise their salaries, like an extra mil for rushing for over 1000 yards, or making 10 picks, also add in extras for your ranking in the standings for personnal stats, and to make it better for team chemistry, add in bonuses for the team winning games, going to the playoffs, and SB

By doing this you have less risks of a player being a bust, they play to their abilities to make money, and don't take plays off because they already got payed. It would also almost eliminate a salary cap and make players want to play for a team because of its fans, and the team, not because they will pay the most. Of course no leagues players association will let something like this happen because the players want the huge contracts based on what they've done, not what they can do, they also want the guarantee that even if they don't give 100%, they will still make top $$$$
