NFL Players Union President

Refutes Goodenow Claim;

Praises Salary Cap

Oct. 8, 2004

The president of the National Football League Players Association, Buffalo Bills defensive back Troy Vincent, has refuted the contention of Bob Goodenow, Executive Director of the NHL Players' Association, that pro football players are unhappy with their current collective bargaining agreement that includes a salary cap.

The Canadian cable network Sportsnet quotes Goodenow as saying on September 22, 2004, "I can tell you this, we have not spoken to any NFL players that endorse their system."

However, in a videotaped interview shown on Sportsnet, Vincent said, "It's two sides working together, beforehand, so that it doesn't get to this position that we're seeing in the NHL today. The cap has worked for us and we're in talks now for an extension."

Sportsnet says it will examine this topic in greater detail on its Monday, October 11 edition of Hockeycentral.
