53-Man Roster

Recommended Posts

Just though I'd give you guys my 53 man roster, after watching a few days of camp and two pre-season games. I'm interested to hear what you guys think.

QB: Drew Bledsoe, Travis Brown, J.P. Losman

RB: Travis Henry, Willis McGahee, Ken Simonton, Jonathan Smith

FB: Daimon Shelton

WR: Eric Moulds, Lee Evans, Josh Reed, Sam Aiken, Clarence Coleman

TE: Mark Campbell, Tim Euhus, Ryan Neufeld, Jason Peters

OT: Mike Williams, Marques Sullivan, Jonas Jennings, Marcus Price, Lawrence Smith, Ben Sobieski

G: Mike Pucillo, Ross Tucker, Chris Villarrial

C: Trey Teague

DE: Aaron Schobel, Ryan Denney, Chris Kelsay, Keith McKenzie

DT: Pat Williams, Sam Adams, Tim Anderson, Ron Edwards

LB: Takeo Spikes, London Fletcher, Jeff Posey, Angelo Crowell, Dominique Stevenson, Josh Stamer

CB: Nate Clements, Troy Vincent, Terrence McGee, Kevin Thomas, Jabari Greer

S: Lawyer Milloy, Coy Wire, Izell Reese, Rashad Baker

K: Rian Lindell

P: Brian Moorman

LS: Jon Dorenbos

The one spot that I really haven't decided is the last DT spot. Could be Bannan or Edwards.

Surprise Cuts: Bobby Shaw - no use having a veteran as a 5th receiver, Antonio Brown - two word: Terrence McGee, Jason Gildon - underused, Pierson Prioleau - Rashad Baker has been impressive.

don't get me wrong, i was just as impressed with coleman as anyone else last preseason, but i really haven't heard much from him since then. bobby shaw on the other hand has been a safety blanket for bledsoe and a reliable one at that. gotta keep BS over CC IMHO.

I really wonder if Joe Burns makes the roster. It's a brand new offensive coaching staff. Statistically over the first two years of his career he's anything but impressive, and he's dealling with a slow healing high ankle sprain. I think the Bills will carry three running backs, and the third spot is a battle between Simonton and Shaud Williams. I also thing that Bobby shaw is consistent enough that unless his cap numbers are high (I don't think they are) he'll get the nod over

Coleman, whose fumble last night cost points.

Neufeld can line up in the backfield and makes a backup FB a luxury the Bills can do without. Burns is also listed as a backup FB, but he's small for a true fullback. Buffalo can (and probably will) carry Lawton on the practice squad.

Although Peters is definitely not ready to contribute in the NFL, Buffalo may like his raw talent enough to carry him on the active roster fearing another team might pluck him from the practice squad.

Although Lawrence Smith was a tackle on the Ravens' practice squad, and may be listed that way on the Bills roster, I think we can say with some confidence now that he's going to be the Bills starting left guard. Sobieski is a swing man at this point, but I think the Bills think of him as more of a guard/center than a tackle. I think it's entirely possible that Pukecillo, having failed to hold on to his guard position, might now be on the bubble. The Bills might prefer to keep someone with potential like McFarland over a guy who's already proved he can't cut it.

On defence, Edwards is a lock to make the team. Buffalo could carry five DTs, in which case, Bannan will make it too, over Sape. McKenzie hasn't done much, but he may keep his roster spot because some of the younger guys, Ritzman, isn't NFL ready.

If the cut down date was tomorrow, Lawrence Smith absolutely makes this team. IMO, unless there's nobody better at any other position, I'd bet Burns is gone. No way Peters makes the 53 man roster at this point.

I agree, Antonio Brown is history. So is Sape.

Wire is on the bubble more than we think.

But, there are 3 more weeks before we can make those decisions.

I dont think that Shaw will get cut, and Gildon will make this team.  I think Bannon and Pierson are gonna get it

I don't think Gildon makes it unless the Bills are just stubborn. He's hardly played or made an impact.

They already kept Bannon and Edwards and let Oliver Gibson go, so Bannon might be safe.

I'd like to see him stick with the Bills and learn, but it will have to be on the practice squad. A team would have to be pretty desperate to pluck a guy that green off the practice squad and put him on their active roster for three weeks.

They wont cut Shaw because he is perfect Josh Reed insurance. Shaw, like Reed, is most effective working out of the slot. He's a great depth guy....and a guy who can come in and create mismatches in 4 WR sets.

Wire or Prioleau will be cut with the way Baker has been playing. Prioleau is the better all around player, but his 7 figure salary may decide that one.

I don't see any need to keep Greg Zolman on the practice squad. We are going to be carrying 3 QB's on the active roster. There's no need to have a 4th QB there during the week. He's a camp arm who will be gone.

Here's my ideal roster

Qb

1) Bledsoe 2) Brown 3) Losman

RB

1) Henry 2) McGahee 3) Simonton

FB

1) Shelton

TE

1) Campbell 2) Euhus 3) Neufeld ( backup FB) 4) Peters ( probably inactive most of the season)

WR

1) Moulds 2) Evans 3) Reed 4)Shaw 5) Aiken 6) Smith

Tackle

1) Williams 2) Jennings 3) Price 4) Sullivan

Guard

1) Villarial 2) Smith 3) Tucker

Center

1) Teague 2) Sobieski ( although i think Tucker will come in if Teague gets hurt)

DE

1) Schobel 2) Denney 3) Kelsay 4) McKenzie ( Neither he nor Gildon offer anything though. They need to try to sign a servicable vet like Chad Bratzke)

DT

1) Williams 2) Adams 3) Edwards 4) Anderson ( The Justin Bannan era is over)

OLB

1) Spikes 2) Posey 3) Stamer 4) Stevenson

MLB

1) Fletcher 2) Crowell 3) Haggan

CB

1) Clements 2) Vincent 3) McGee 4) Thomas 5) Greer

SS

1) Milloy 2) Wire ( still offers special teams contribution..and can be used in situational run support/blitzing. Gets the nod over Prioleau based on salary

FS

1) Reese 2) Baker

K- Lindell

P- Moorman

LS- Dorenbos

Practice Squad

1)WR- Meyers

2)FB-Lawton

3)RB-Williams ( although I would love to see him get more of an opportunity to push Simonton)

4) OT-McFarland

5) DE-Ritzman

6) DB-Richardson

7) DT- Sape

8) WR-Beard

I don't think fast Freddie makes the team either unless he beats out McGee as a kick retruner, and right now it doesn't look like that's going to happen. He might make the practice squad, which, by the way, has been expanded to 8 players.
