AnthonyF
Only once I can remember the D doing it when called upon (the three & out vs. Houston) that gave us the chance to win. Otherwise they fail over and over in the 4th quarter in particular. This was the first game in the last 5 we allowed under 400 yards, which is a joke. Some stats and random points..... Game 1 vs. New England - They run out the clock the last 6 minutes... Miami & Minn - Both score and get close in the 4th. Minnesota misses a pass that would havbe put them ahead the last minute NYJ - We get to 21-13 and they promptly score the next drive 60 yards Det - Hold it the last 4 minutes, converting a crucial 3rd & 5 to end the game Indy - Hald the last 6 minutes Jax - Tie the game on their last drive with 29 seconds left. Includes a qb scramble and 4th & 15. SD - 80 yards 8 minutes.... Can't stop them from scoring a TD. A Fg and we had a chance.... Add to that we keep running when we are gaining nothing.... At least the offense is starting to find ways to come up with the big play - 3 games in a row.

LabattBlue
To me, the most disappointing part of the drive by far, is that SD was forced into a 3rd down situation only once... 1-10-SD20 (11:32) L.Tomlinson up the middle to SD 21 for 1 yard (K.Williams). 2-9-SD21 (10:52) P.Rivers pass short right to E.Parker to SD 31 for 10 yards (C.Wire). Out pass, caught at SD 30. 1-10-SD31 (10:15) L.Tomlinson left guard to SD 29 for -2 yards (R.Denney). 2-12-SD29 (9:39) P.Rivers pass short left to E.Parker to SD 37 for 8 yards (N.Clements). Caught near sideline at SD 37. 3-4-SD37 (8:52) P.Rivers pass short middle to A.Gates to BUF 44 for 19 yards (L.Fletcher-Baker). Caught on run at BUF 48. 1-10-BUF44 (8:12) L.Tomlinson up the middle to BUF 35 for 9 yards (K.Thomas, K.Simpson). 2-1-BUF35 (7:33) L.Neal up the middle to BUF 33 for 2 yards (T.Anderson; T.Spikes). 1-10-BUF33 (6:53) L.Tomlinson up the middle to BUF 30 for 3 yards (T.Anderson, L.Fletcher-Baker). 2-7-BUF30 (6:10) P.Rivers pass short right to A.Gates to BUF 20 for 10 yards (D.Whitner). Caught along sideline at BUF 20. 1-10-BUF20 (5:26) L.Tomlinson right end pushed ob at BUF 13 for 7 yards (D.Whitner). 2-3-BUF13 (4:57) L.Tomlinson up the middle to BUF 3 for 10 yards (K.Thomas). Key block: L.Neal. 1-3-BUF3 (4:17) L.Tomlinson left guard to BUF 2 for 1 yard (L.Tripplett; L.Fletcher-Baker). 2-2-BUF2 (3:31) L.Tomlinson left tackle for 2 yards, TOUCHDOWN. The one thing that it's had in common in the past 7-8 seasons (even when they were ranked #2 in the league two years running) is that they consistently come up small at the end of games. They allow teams to score, run out the clock, pick up first downs...whatever the other team needs to do to win the D allows it to happen. At some point this team needs some players that know how to come up big in critical situations.

Folks like to talk about offensive "playmakers", but it's the improbable ones on defense that makes that critical stop or pass break-up that often saves the bacon. I'm a believer in getting the bench LB's and DB's into the game for a few plays throughout a game if the situation warrants. As well as the back-up wr's and rb's. You don't want to permanently nail a potential, future asset to the bench.

CFLstyle
What people fail to recognize is that the D came out and got the Bills right back in the game early in the second half, those two offensive touchdowns could pretty much be credited tom the defense thanks to the turnover and quick 3 and out. Well they couldn't stop the best running back in the league, which has to be embarassing, because every other team in the league has stuffed Tomlinson and the Chargers' offense. AnthonyF
Yes Canadian.... Just come up big on 50% of the chances.... Hold SD to a FG and we are still in it. Let NE & Indy hold the ball 5 minutes and we get a minute to do something. Defense(happy now) has been getting off lightly..... Also PP gave up on the int & the refs were pathetic by all accounts yesterday.....
