IBTG81
Dan Patrick on his radio show today said Carroll may leave USC and take a job with the Arizona Cardinals as their head coach.

IBTG81
Was this more ESPN bull sh-- or is this a credible rumor? 852077 I doubt it would happen (why would you leave USC for Arizona?!?!) Patrick said it was a possibility from what he had heard.
bartshan-83
I'm guessing this is a dumbass ESPN "idea" where they try to link things up (Leinart is the Cardinals QB, Carroll was his coach, Cards need a coach = Carroll is leaving! If true, and I frankly doubt it, then Carroll is even more of a douche than I thought. As strange as it sounds (at least to me), he has the chance to go down as maybe the greatest (or one of) college football coach. Obviously that is a marathon, not a sprint, but he has had a helluva first mile. Barring a ridiculous UCLA upset, USC will have gone to the championship game each of the last 4 years!!! Plus, the year before, they got a split title. Most great coaches win ONE championship if they are fortunate. In about 7 years (sound right Smokin?), Pete Carroll (giant tool that he is) has produced 3 Heisman winners, 3 national championships, and most likely 5 consecutive shots at a title (got to be a record). Chance to be a legend, instead fail again as a mediocre NFL coach.

Listen , did he ever say he was happy there and wouldn't leave?
bartshan-83
Just a little fuel for the fire... I had forgotten about this from last year... 30 million reasons to leave...story is three weeks old Same story from Trojanwire.com I wouldn't put much stock in it if not for the story from last year (link #1). I remember that now and if it was true, AZ could be the perfect storm to lure him away ($$$, Complete Control, Reunion with Leinart, Warm Climate). But who knows? I'd say it has about as good a shot as Schiano leaving Rutgers. Take that as you will...

They went 6-6 and lost to Utah 10-6 in the Las Vegas Bowl on Christmas Day 2001 The next year's team, Palmer (finally) came into his own and they won eight straight to finish the season 11-2 and defeated Iowa in the Orange Bowl. Palmer Heisman '03- Rose Bowl win over Michigan and AP National Champs. Were #1 in both the Coaches and AP polls and end of regular season, but left out of the BCS final. The Coaches Poll is obligated to rank the BCS winner #1. Finished 12-1. '04- 13-0 national champs, Leinart Heisman '05- 12-1 lost to Texas (or more specifically, Vince) in the finals. Finished AP #2. Bush Heisman. '06- 11-1 at the moment and a chance at another big one. NOW, IN STARK CONTRAST, THE USC TROJANS DURING THE S'N'J ERA: I was a freshman in Fall of '97, and was a SuperSenior graduating in May 2002. '97 (under John Robinson): 6-5, no bowl game. Robinson fired. Team did show some promise. Hired Paul Hackett in offseason. There goes the promise. '98 (under Paul Hackett): 8-5, true freshman QB Carson Palmer split time until he became the starter for USC in their 9th game. Lost 28-19 to TCU in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, TX. Some guy named Basil Mitchell rushed for 185 on 19 carries for TCU. Backup sophomore RB LaDanian Tomlinson rushed for 30. '99: 6-6, no bowl game. Started 3-0, but Palmer broke his collarbone in the third game and missed the rest of the year. Palmer redshirted. '00: 5-7, no bowl game. Palmer painfully inconsistent in his redshirt sophomore season. Paul Hackett is fired, Pete Carroll hired. '01: (S'n'J's last fall season at the university): 6-6 and lost the Las Vegas Bowl to Utah. So, in my five years there, USC went 31-29. Since the fall of '01, they are 59-5 with three Heisman's, two national titles, and are guaranteed their 5th BCS Bowl appearance. PAINFUL!!! /dev/null
He'd be a fool to leave USC for the Arizona Cardinals At USC he runs the program the way he wants to. In Arizona he would have to put up with assclown owner Bill Bidwell Plus it will be alot harder to recruit free agents to the netherworld of the NFL than it is to recruit high schoolers to go to college in sunny Callyforneeya and play for a national powerhouse
bartshan-83
SmokinNJokin's sad tale.... 852123 Yeah that's rough. Of course going to a school with the most storied football team of all-time and sitting though what may go down as the worst 4-year stretch in the history of the school ...I'm tempted to say: Stop yer bitchin! The games were still fun, and winning was sweet because they only won about half the time. A dude I went to college with there has a younger brother at USC now, and the young buck can't even fathom 35,000 in the LA Coliseum when we tell him that's what it was like. He's only ever seen 92,000 in there! Like Homer Jay's answer when asked if he'd been licking toads: I did not not enjoy Notre Dame's recent rough stretch... Chilly
I've always been glad I got to Texas at the time that I did. Seeing as how I have to go an extra semester next year, maybe we'll win two before I'm out.
