Is WM slow hitting the line

I'd like to hear your opinions on this.

When I see WM run he looks tentative & slow hitting the hole. That said, when he shakes the rust off I think he'll be a very good back in the Antowain Smith mold.

Willis looked tentative to me. No burst really. These quotes in Today's Tennessee Newspaper From Keith Bulluck back it up.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

''It's football,'' said Bulluck, whose jolting hit looked to have a whiplash effect on Henry. ''He's a tough running back. I hope he has a speedy recovery. He's a good asset to that team. … He is the best running back they've got.

''I don't understand what the controversy is about. McGahee is not ready. He definitely not ready. He doesn't hit the hole as hard as Travis.''

Henry, the starting running back, has been in the middle of a brewing controversy with Willis McGahee, who was Buffalo's first-round pick last year. McGahee is beginning to clamor for playing time after sitting out last season recovering from a knee injury.

Henry had 27 yards on seven carries while McGahee carried 11 times for 28 yards and a TD.

''To me, (McGahee) didn't really pose a threat when he was back there,'' Bulluck said. ''But he is a young back and he has time. I definitely don't think he should start over Travis Henry.''

I think he just runs with more patience than most backs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't mind him picking his holes because he does attack them once he makes his choice. Shortyardage is the only time I'd really like to see him jam it up in there a little harder and quicker(shaddap ya' hogs).

You are right and I also notice that when he hits the line and encounters resistance he turns his back, he is no Travis Henry at least not yet maybe not ever

IIRC, the draft-guide folks tended to say that he dances about in the backfield and picked his holes, as you say.

Can we cut WM some slack. He is still recovering and probably won't be close to normal until midway throught the season if he is lucky. Everyone seems to think this guy should have his old burst back already and that he is no good because he doesn't. He has made tremendous headway since the surgery.

If TH keeps geting hurt, WM is what we got. So deal with it.

I'd just like to add that the terms "very good back" and "Antowain Smith mold" haven't been uttered together in awhile.

When he's healthy, WM will be far quicker than Antowain ever was, and he's a better pass-catcher as well.

That must have been some other back that beat Bulluck and his teammates to the pylon in the first half, then. Hey Keith. :I starred in Brokeback Mountain:
