IBTG81
Then why are other conferences trying to raid our coaches. You have Miami wanting Leavitt or Schiano, D'Antonio just went to Michigan St., Petrino is always wanted by someone, and Alabama wants Rich Rodriguez. It's funny though, that no one wants pornstache. The only one who left (and will end up leaving) is D'Antonio, and it was for personal reasons. Nice of you to ignore the question though... IBTG81
Because the whole line of reasoning is stupid 850114 How is it stupid? Because it doesn't fit your anti-BE bias? It's a simple question...How can the BE be so bad if we have all of the "hot" coaches?

It's a simple question...How can the BE be so bad if we have all of the "hot" coaches? 850115 Do you think that people wouldn't consider the coaches in other conferences as "hot" if there were any chance of them leaving? Schools wouldn't want Mack Brown, Bob Stoops, Bill Callahan, Dennis Franchione, etc. if there were any chance they'd leave the Big 12, I guess. Its stupid because claiming a conference is good because they have produced hot coaching candidates for better conferences is stupid. Great coaches USUALLY produce good/great teams. The fact that these programs are getting turned down is even funnier!

The fact that these programs are getting turned down is even funnier! 851724 I find it funny that you bring up my Longhorns having 3 losses this year, as if that somehow validates your point. Great coaches do the best with the resources that they have. This does not necessarily mean that they will be able to produce one of the best football teams in the country, but rather that they will be able to produce the best football team that they could possibly produce. I also find it funny that you claim programs are getting turned down. Whose programs, exactly? Petrino turning down Alabama? Dantonio turning down Michigan State (oops)? Petrino's the only one I heard turning down Alabama (can't say I blame him). Have you heard of any others?

And that was just this year...

Chilly
Miami-absolutelyAlabama-has the tradition 851873 I'd disagree with that, but to each his own I guess. I'd rather stay in the Big East which is much more wide open then the SEC, which provides an easier path to get conference championships/recruits. Plus, it still is a BCS conference for the winner. Miami's program has gone down the toilet in the Coker years, and their facilities are horrible. I don't think it'd be unexpected for Miami to lose out on recruiting to FSU/Florida for the next few years. I'd rather stay at the schools where I've already built something and in a conference that is easier to compete in if I'm vying for a big payday, and I'd be looking for a few jobs that are probably opening in the next couple of years, like Penn State and Florida State. If I was Schiano I'd be positioning myself for that PSU job once Joe Pa retires.
IBTG81
If I was Schiano I'd be positioning myself for that PSU job once Joe Pa retires. 851886 Why? The RU job is just as good, if not better. NJ is a hotbed for recruiting, and we have the NJ/NY/Philly market.
smokinandjokin
If I was Schiano I'd be positioning myself for that PSU job once Joe Pa retires. 851886 Word is Schiano is off to State College six seconds after JoePa walks. But maybe not, cause it's a Jersey thing, right Ed? We wouldn't understand. Rodriguez would be stupid to leave WVU this year, unless he really loves one of the openings. I'd take one more year with Slaton and White and make a run at the title game, and then see what is available. Alabama has history, big deal. The SEC is brutal, and the Tide haven't kept up with the big dogs. A few probations tend to facilitate that. Miami could be turned around quickly in the anemic ACC, as the balance of power tends to fluctuate. With Miami's influence on the Florida high school talent, it shouldn't take long to turn them around. But don't you see what happens when you leave the cupcake Big East Ed? BC, VT, and Miami couldn't slap teams around like they used to. Coaches who have built a solid base in the Big East should stick around and wait for a job they want. It won't take much to please boosters, and likewise, it won't take much to win 9 games or more each year against the other Big East powerhouses. Bide your time with a few successful seasons and then upgrade.
