Pine Barrens Mafia
Came across this interesting article, while not about peak oil, it's certainly related to the situation the US has created for itself by our oil-centric energy policies and dependence on foreign sources. While it doesn't state this, it highlights the fact that our dependence on foriegn oil is a more serious issue than peak oil. changing oil markets "Russia has found the Achilles' heel of the US colossus. In concert with its oil-producing partners and the rising powerhouse economies of the East, Russia is altering the foundations of the current US-led liberal global oil-market order, insidiously working to undermine its US-centric nature and slanting it toward serving first and foremost the energy-security needs and the geopolitical aspirations of the rising East. " 845624 Maybe that's just what we need. It is apparent to me at least that Russia has never been a partner, and China cannot be trusted. The Euros, as well. A new era of economic and military isolationism would do wonders to aid our position. They won't realize how foolish their current course is until the economic rug is pulled out from under them, so be it. I say do just that. Tariff their products. Seize their companies assets in the USA. If the Chinese and Russians want to play hardball and try to undercut OUR economy, then I say we utterly ruin theirs. By seizing their American-based assets, reneging on any debt held by them, and walling ourselves off economically. It's time we stopped playing nicely with the rest of the world and truly exerted our power. Cooperation gets you nowhere in international business and politics, especially when your "partners" aren't partners at all. OR... we could paint that picture for them. Threaten their economic growth if they continue their current course. Extortion? Yes, maybe. But you ahve to do what you have to do nowadays to win. finknottle
I want there to be an economy, and a world for that economy to exist in, in my grandkids' time. We are so short-sighted it's ridiculous. 844766 And it the economy does have to transition to other energy sources, better now while there is still oil left than later. Just imagine the world in 40 years if these clowns get their way - simultanously dealing with global warming, overpopulation, depleted oceans, depleted energy sources, and a bankrupt government. Well, maybe the right package of tax cuts will keep things going...
