apuszczalowski Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 No way, that song rocks. The brilliant lyrics... We're heading for Venus (Venus) And still we stand tall Cause maybe they've seen us And welcome us all (yeah) With so many light years to go And things to be found (to be found) I'm sure that we'll all miss her so It's the final countdown... ...then the keyboards are all like... Doona noo noo Doona noo noo noo Doona noo noo Doona noo noo noo Breathtaking! 843499 I don't know if just breath taking would cover it, definitly have to add in Epic! Those Keyboards make the song
buckeyemike Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Surprised no one said this piece o' crap yet: 1A. "This is Our Country" -- John Mellencamp, 2006
The Dean Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Difference is it's bubblegum music that's in on the joke, at least. They are not the best R.E.M. songs by a country mile, but 50 worst-ever should be reserved for sh-- like "Save the Best for Last" or Rod Stewart's "Have I Told You Lately?" which has got to be the phoniest piece of musical drivel ever committed to tape. I want to simultaneously hang myself and light myself on fire every time I hear that sappy dreck. 843746 I understand your point, although I've never heard anything from REM that would earn that kind of respect from me. As for "Have I Told You Lately?", Stewart's version is pure schmaltz...just freakin' HORRIBLE. The same song sung by the song's composer, Van Morrison, is a beautiful love song. It's not Van's best work, and is a little sappy, but it wouldn't come close to making this list. Stewart's version surely sucks.
