Wacka Posted November 17, 2006 Share Posted November 17, 2006 The USS Iowa is in mothballs in Suisun Bay and the USS Hornet (the carrier that picked up Apollo 11) is on display in Alameda. The non-profit group that runs the Hornet Museum has trouble paying the bills. There has been talk of moving them both to SF where the tourist traffic would be more and more money would come in. The Board of STUPIDvisors said they didn't want them because they were monuments to war. Another ship was offerd to them and Stockton (about 40 miles inland) is getting it after they turned it down. Stockton has a deep water channel through the delta to get to it. The idiots there are a real work of art. They got bonds passed to build a new stadium for the Niners 10 years ago, but nothing was ever done. The Niners have the oldest stdium in the league.
