truth on hold Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Bills have no wideout that has a physical or size advantage against defensive backs. It's the #1 reason Losman holds on to the ball so long and can't find anyone open; no one is open! Case is point: Saints rookie Marques Colston was largely unheralded and drafted in the 7th round. But at 6-4 231 his obvious size advantage is helping to run away with rookie of year honors as he is leading the league w/ 7 TDs and he's only 50 yards short of leading the league in yards too. Please Marv wise-up: smaller high-motor, high-character smurfs can only get you so far these days. You need a guy like Colston, Plaxico, Owens and others whose size alone gives them an unfair advantage of catching every ball throw their way, whether they look open or not. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8001/
Chilly Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I would like to see a Matt Jones-type wr in Buffalo next year.
ganesh Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Let us repeat this again./....This bills offense will not go anywhere without a good OL...Until they fix that problem, it is going to be a problem... If you have a good line, then you can do many things....If you have small WRs then you can do the hitch and run passes, or put them in the slot and get YAC.. If you a physical WR then you can let them beat double coverage and outjump CBs to pull down the pass....But to do any of those, you need a good OL.

The difference they have guys with names like reggie wayne, gabriel, owens, gates, ben watson, plaxico who because of their size and physicality are always effectively open.

Bungee Jumper Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Bills have no wideout that has a physical or size advantage against defensive backs.832209 Except Josh Reed. You mean they need a physical or size advantage against defensive backs combined with the ability to actually get open once in a blue moon.
Max997 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 you should stop watching football if you think the Bills #1 need is WR
bartshan-83 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I kind of wanted the Bills to take a flyer on Mo Stovall from ND last year...but seeing how he has played in exactly one game for the Bucs this year, has no catches and his only significant action was catching a TD that was called back for offensive PI on him...um
D_House Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Didn't the Bills have a rookie free agent in camp that fit this bill?
Mikie2times Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Didn't the Bills have a rookie free agent in camp that fit this bill? 832268 Yes, he plays for the Vikings now.
Max997 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Marvin Harrison, Steve Smith and Hines Ward are all under 6 feet with Ward the only one over 200 lbs ( listed at 205 ) and they always seem to be open WRs dont have to be big they just have to be good....Rob Johnson had Eric Moulds and he still hung onto the ball too long, what happened there? WR is the least of this teams worries

BuffaloBilliever Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Martin Nance. How we will miss ye.

Perhaps if the Steelers had held on to Burress, they would've won it all last year and the Giants would've been shutout in round 1.
generaLee83 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 you should stop watching football if you think the Bills #1 need is WR 832248 I concur, I would ask the questions in this order. How about defensive tackles that don't get pushed off the ball as often? Have our DT's generated 1 sack or even a few tackles for loss? Tripplett is yet to be noticed and could end up being labeled a "bust" by seasons end. He is sooooooooo familiar with the cover 2 right? Then how come he's making the least impact? How about having more than 1 dominant O-lineman ("dominant" may be a stretch also) How about a HB with breakaway speed? WM can be productive but he is not a home run threat from 30+ yards out. And we all know how dreadful it is once the Bills 'O' gets in the red zone. It's just dissapointment and shame usually followed by a Lindell FG. As someone else pointed out in another thread, 3 of the 7 draft picks were used on the secondary and it appears that next year it will remain very weak. (assuming Nate leaves and McGee continues his 'poop bowl' level of play) Now here is the part where I would ask about the WR position.
CJPearl2 Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Two words: Calvin Johnson. And the way our schedule looks and the amount of games will end up winning, he may be available in the draft. Well, maybe not. He is top 3 in almost every draft board.
Bflojohn Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 The truth in this is that the #2 reciever is a luxury item until the offeensive and defensive lines are reconstructed! I've said that a bonified #2 is something that the Bills need "down the road", howvever, that scenario is two or three years away unless they get Marques Colston lucky!! NOT TOO LIKELY!

Let's chase every rabbit down every hole. Get a good Oline and forget about the next big rookie.
