TheZone78 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 This is another part of the rivalry that I LOVE! Leafs fans sweat Toronto so hard (it's a fantastic city, btw, I do like it there a lot) and they consider Buffalo to be nothing but a run-down, decrepid, second-class town. And they can't fathom that their fancy, big time team from their great city HAS NO CHANCE of beating that bankrupt, low-class, no-name team from schitty Buffalo. HAHAHAHAHA- Suck on it! 824029 I have no problem with Buffalo and I regularly attend Bills games.
5 Wide Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 You might have a point if the Sabres had a cup since 1970.... By the way, I do think you were scammed by Brett Hull...I'm somewhat sympathetic....I stress somewhat. 824023 Congratulations, you beat out 5 other teams to win the cup. They're glorified division championships.
TheZone78 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Why would I only have a point if Buffalo has won a cup since 1970? Last time I checked, The Leafs don't have one since then either. My comments aren't being used to put me above Leafs fans, they are to bring the Leafs fans down to the same level. so a rational hockey discussion/debate can be had. I find 99% of all Leafs fans only answer in a debate is comparing cup wins Its ok, I think even Brett Hull knows it wasn't a goal 824031 Because there is no rational point a Sabres fan can use to justify the fact they've never won the Stanley Cup.
Chef Jim Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Because there is no rational point a Sabres fan can use to justify the fact they've never won the Stanley Cup. 824036 Huh??
smokinandjokin Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 Because there is no rational point a Sabres fan can use to justify the fact they've never won the Stanley Cup. 824036 You're right. History shows the Leafs have 11 cups, the Sabres 0. Factoid justified. There's also no rational point a Leafs fan can use to deny the fact that the Leafs are the Sabres' little brother. Whipping boy. B word. Whatever you want to call it. A Leafs fan can't rationally say that their team has even been RELEVANT in the NHL as a successful franchise for over 40 years. 76-50-18 with a +132 goal differential. Domination. Oh yeah, I forgot we can't use head-to-head results when comparing two teams. "But....but....11 Cups! And the Leafs didn't lose to the Sabres ONE TIME from 1920 to 1969!"

PS - if you use the overall records like that a Miami Dolphin fan might hear you and use the same point, so try to keep it down!!!
apuszczalowski Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 "But....but....11 Cups! And the Leafs didn't lose to the Sabres ONE TIME from 1920 to 1969!" 824048 Those were dark days where there was no support for the Sabres. The LEafs just flat out dominated them in those days
TheZone78 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Huh?? 824040 Sorry for using big words.
smokinandjokin Posted November 3, 2006 Author Posted November 3, 2006 PS - if you use the overall records like that a Miami Dolphin fan might hear you and use the same point, so try to keep it down!!! 824051 Couldn't I just tell him that the Bills won two AFL Championships in '64 and '65, and the Dolphins won zero, so clearly the Dolphins don't have a leg to stand on?
Taro T Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 And I love the fact that Sabres fan just dismiss the Maple Leafs Stanley Cup victories because they're way in the past, but will take the rivalries overall record to prove their point. Just a tad hypocritcal. I like watching the games in Buffalo, there's none of those clunky Stanley Cup banners to block my view of the game. 824011 OK Junior, Let's look at the head to head record of the teams in your lifetime. The Sabres record vs the Loafs starting in '86-'87, one of only 3 years from then 'til now that the Loafs didn't lose to the Sabres (the other 2 being '95 and '04-'05) I might add, is 35-18-10-2. The Sabres have won nearly 2/3's of the games between the 2. No wonders you are whining about how the series between the 2 is irrelevant. The Sabres have kicked your beloved Laffs bippies up and down the ice for basically forever (at least your personal version of it). OK, now is the time that you come back with "well the Laffs won a Stanley Cup nearly 20 years before I was born, but I'm still very proud of that accomplishment even though it wasn't until this year that you could go back within twice my lifetime and been able to witness it."
apuszczalowski Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Couldn't I just tell him that the Bills won two AFL Championships in '64 and '65, and the Dolphins won zero, so clearly the Dolphins don't have a leg to stand on? 824056 No cause then they just bring up the unbeaten Dolphins team and go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on about how they are so much greater because of it. Haven't you ever seen the commercial where the 2 Dolphins fans are sitting outside eating and a guy comes buy looking for signatures to Save the Dolphins and the guy satnds up and talks about how the Dolphins aren't in trouble and spouts off about the unbeaten team and how they were a dynasty in the 70's. Man I ahte that commercial, everytime I see it I wanna yell at the TV "That was 30 years ago!!!!! Give it up!!!!"
loadofmularkey Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 This thread is bringing a tear to my eye. The rivalry lives. Not that I was ever worried...
Chef Jim Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Sorry for using big words. 824053 Yeah, that's it, big words. Actually not sure what you were saying. How are Sabre's fans supposed to justify something that didn't happen? They didn't win enough games? Does that work for ya?
5 Wide Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 6 Teams, there were only 6 teams when the leafs won the cup. They want to talk about putting an asterisk next to the Sabres winning streak, then History should read like this: Toronto Maple Leafs: *11 Stanley Cups (note) * denotes that these victories are nothing more than division championships due to the fact the leafs only had to beat 5 other teams to win the cup. Christ they could have been mediocre and been the 3rd best team in the NHL.
TheZone78 Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 This thread is bringing a tear to my eye. The rivalry lives. Not that I was ever worried... 824062 Yeah, it's fun....I can be civil with Sabres fans. If this was a Montreal board then it no holds barred.
Dante Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Judging by this thread this game is gonna friggen rock! I love this ****. Keep it up guys! I have a fantastic double header this Saturday. Leafs/Sabres then we have the Penguins in town. Watched them the other night and the jr Staal looked very good and so did Crosby. Hell Mark Recchi even looks rejuvinated with all the young talent there. Hell of a hockey night thats sure. Im willing to bet it will much more intriguing than the Bills on Sunday. duh
loadofmularkey Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Yeah, it's fun....I can be civil with Sabres fans. If this was a Montreal board then it no holds barred. 824110 Well Habs fans are just unreasonable.
meazza Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Well Habs fans are just unreasonable. 824215 In what way shape or form?
Chef Jim Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 In what way shape or form? 824218 Have you read any of your posts??
meazza Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Have you read any of your posts?? 824221 lol I have been nothing but respectful towards the swords. I make fun of the Leafs fans since they always talk sh-- about the Habs. I mean, hey it is true, there were 6 teams back then, but even when the league expanded, the Habs still got some rings.
