Chef Jim
I'm not exactly ecstatic at seeing my hard-earned cash being taken either, but if I think the money is going to be used to build a better society then I believe it to be a price worth paying. 824420 But that's what I'm using my money for. So you're trusting the government to do the right thing with your money? Good one! There are some truly destitute people out there that could use my help. That's why I give to charities. However there is a large percentage of the population that is just plain lazy. So you're saying some of MY hard earned money should go to them? I think not. Because what I see is money going to those with the most political leverage. (Consider agricultural subsidies for example.) The larger the government's role in the economy becomes, the more the messed-up political process in Washington will determine winners and losers. Orton's Arm
"Denmark has won plaudits for running a healthy economy. Its employment levels are the envy of many industrialised countries and it accommodates a competitive economic edge as well as a generous social security system. " . . . "The Swedes still enjoy an advanced welfare system, and their standard of living and life expectancy are almost second to none. " Joe Six Pack's response to this was a slam dunk. But I'll add to what he wrote by saying that I know a woman who lived in Sweden. She had a low income while she was there. Paid high taxes. In fact, her taxes were so high that by the time she'd finished paying them, her rent, and her utilities, it was really tough to buy food. In a bad month, the last week or so would have no money at all for food, or for anything else. But if going hungry ever caused her medical problems, at least the hospital stay would be free. meazza
Listen, you just don't have to suffer through the outrage of being undertaxed. By all means, please send in all of your money - or however much you think they deserve - to the government of your choice. Just don't volunteer them to take mine. Please take up the fight and get all your friends to send in their money too. Don't stand still for this injustice. You have a right to be taxed and also a right to give generously to the taxman of your choice. It'll work. Don't just stand by passively and be continually humiliated by the fact that your paycheck is too fat. Dig down a bit and give more. It'll satisfy your soul knowing that you've given so much to the eminently worthy cause of wealth distribution. And don't forget to stop in regularly at your local emergency ward, high school and soup kitchen to be recognized for your generosity to humanity. While you're at it you can resign from all the civic groups and organizations that you've generously contributed your cash and time to over the past several decades. Once your additional tax contributions trickle down through the efficient government bureaucracy to the truly needy that they've identified through their neutrality to special-interest-groups well, paradise can't be far away. And then you can bask in the glorious vision of the new socialist state you're working so hard to create. 824425 Wow, way to exagerate everything. As much as you don't like it, not everybody or individual has a total say in everything... Boo hoo hoo, too freaking bad... As soon as you get on with the concept and that lack of control... You will be forking it over Chefy... Now don't go overboard and over react, it is chump change to most... And I am not asking for unchecked lack of control... Then again, giving one dime to some equals unchecked control of their fiscal control... To them, I will just plainly call "tightwads." When it comes to pooling money for a common cause, 1000 people will have a 100 different ways to put that money to good use... Most of the time, stuck in their own pocket... Wrap that up in words like: Freedom Liberty Choice Etc... And you got stalemate... Oh... Yes, call me a socialist...

South Park used those numbers and a couple Raging Clues to prove that 25% (atleast) of America is retarded 16 people have contributed to this thread thus far HA + TBB + JB = 3 3/16 = 18.75% 18.75% < 25% Therefore, somehow this thread is more intelligent than the general population

This lowers their number of brain cells, and based on statistics, since the parent has less brain cells their kids would too. Therefore, head slappers should be forbidden to reproduce

bills_fan
Exactly. The label. Socialism seems to equate to satanism in the eyes of many Americans. In reality, all forms of socialism do not necessarily lead to the apocalypse. For decades the politics of the Scandinavian nations have been dominated by democratic socialist parties and this did not lead to the collapse of civilization, far from it. Problem is, they have the highest tax rates in the world. You feel like spending the money you earned (at least the portion we get now anyway, which is far too little IMHO) or turning it over for someone else to spend. Personally, I'll keep it and spend it any way I please. Don't like that, then go earn some yourself.
