It has to happen sometime, right? They do have a tough stretch coming up, even though I'd consider the first nine a pretty tough stretch too, and we know how that worked out. A win at NYI means they play a talented Atlanta team at home to set the NHL record for wins to start a season. Also looming is the always-big game at home against the Leafs, followed by a 5pm game the next day at NYR. Obviously, at Philly (2nd game in two nights) and at Carolina could present problems, as both of those teams will want the Sabres badly. The two against Ottawa will not be easy. So what do we think?

IMO, while I hope it never happens, 11/13 at the Canes and 11/18 at Ottawa seem to have the most potential for a hiccup...And playing the Rangers less than 24-hours after the HUGE rivalry game has stumble written all over it...

Atlanta looks to  me as the toughest upcoming. Playing pretty good hockey and Lehtonen is solid in goal. Kovalochuck and Hossa are on fire right now.

I was thinking the same thing...to set that record, the Sabres will have had to earn it, they have had a pretty strong schedule through this whole thing, Boston, and Philly (as it turns out) have been the only weak teams they have beaten...

Of course there are alredy hockey pundits in Canada (I don't think hockey is big enough here in the US to have pundits!) claiming that the Sabres "record" should have an asterik, because of the shoot-outs rule changes....fug them! :lol:

Well, they fail to mention how many games the Sabres have absolutely owned thier opponents. Only bringing up the close ones. Every game Ive seen the Sabres this season(approx 5) they look full value for thier undefeated record.

Of course, they don't bring up that also extended the amount of time during the game that they could have ended up losing.

They are all playing by the same rules.

How many SO's did they win... 2?... So if the record is set, will they be happy if the Sabres get more wins minus how many SO's there were?

Actually, with ties... It seems it would be easier to set the record... With SO's, there is more chance you will come out with a loss... He is why... A tie will push you to another game, three and a quarter more periods in the next game...

Did the 1993 ML's have any ties?... Or, was it a pure 10-0 record? What about teams before the OT was instituted in regular season games? Is there a * next to the ML's because they played under different rules too?? Ties still consider a team going undefeated right???

:lol::)

Thanx... So I guess the Sabres can win more than ten, minus the SO's and that should be okay... Looks like the ML's didn't have any OT wins there either...

Let the ML's have the record... They got nothing else to cling to!

Too lazy to look it up to see which one, but on the radio this morning they said one of the '93 Loafs' wins was in OT.

Also, even though the Loafs started 10-0 that year, in a season with 2 extra games (they were playing 2 games at neutral sites for a total of 84 games back then) they could not break 100 points. They had 20 points after 10 games, and in the next 74 only picked up 78 points.

Friggin' Loafs. :angry:

And I read something today that said the NHL "decided" to recognize the Sabres' winning streak "despite" three of the wins being in OT.  <_<

Well, I'm certain that there was a certain contingent in the league offices that wanted an asterisk by the record (if they get it tonight) because of the 3 shootout wins. TO has to be known for something besides white nameplates on white sweaters and blue on blue.

But, who's to say the Sabres wouldn't have done something different in OT to try to get the win if there weren't a shootout? Considering the Sabres have one of the best, if not the best goalie at stopping breakaways, my guess is Lindy likes his chances when it becomes one on one and has no incentive to force the win in the "regular" OT.
