did anyone happen to keep MSG on following the post game show?

Blue Oyster Cult Live. Not sure what the gig was and why it was on MSG... but they cut into the show midway through "Don't Fear the Reaper".

"More Cowbell!"

Anyone notice that Buffalo is the last undefeated team in the NHL? Minnesota lost tonight to Anaheim. The Ducks, however, have never lost in regulation - both losses were in OT.

Still, congrats to the Sabres!

What's the record for most wins to start a season?

When they were in the West with Felix "the cat" Potvin.

A time that they I actually had respect for that franchise...

not anymore though.

The eighties particularly were tough times and the Ballard years often embarrassing, but before and from the 90's forward they have had some interesting teams and good playoff runs. This year they while not great will be decent.

I hear you, but you have to realize that the REAL reason the Canes won is because they managed to find a goaltender that was solid and composed enough to lead them to the finals.  Only one other rookie goaltender has ever done that and he went on to win  3 more after that.

Really?

I'm assuming you are referring to Roy.

Weren't Thompson, Brimsek (1 more after the 1st), Durnan (1 more after the 1st), McCool, Plante (split time with McNeil and had best GAA in playoffs followed up by 5 consecutive), and Dryden (5 more after the 1st) rookies when they won the Stanley Cup? I'm certain I am forgetting a few, but its late and I'm tired.

BTW, the REAL reason the Canes won the Stanley Cup is they were good and extremely lucky. If Williams doesn't gouge Koivu's eye (and somehow not get called for it either) they don't get past your beloved Habs.

Interestingly Ken Dryden was brought up from the minors and played in playoffs , winning Stanley Cup , Conn Smythe Award, the next season, he still qualified as rookie and was awarded Calder Trophy.

You are correct of course in mentioning others previous . Like this quote from Dryden on seeing himself on TV,

On Seeing Himself on Television: "This was only the second time in my life I'd ever seen myself on television, and it shattered a lot of illusions. I looked like a big stiff. What a sobering experience. I always thought of myself as Nureyev on ice. But on TV, I realized that I was a dump truck. I was an elephant on wheels."

I don't know for sure, I haven't been around long enough to know . I just know for sure that Roy is the last guy to do it. I'm not comparing Roy to Ward, far from it, but he did accomplish the same difficult goal.

The Koivu injury was unintentional, but ya the refs should have called it. But I won't hold NHL refs to anything since I stopped expecting them to do anything right a long time ago. Either they don't call anything (pre-lockout) or call every single possible thing (example 25 penalties called Habs vs Flames).

They were lucky, I'm sure even they know that, but winning the SC is one of the most grueling and difficult of tasks. I find it hard not to give props to a team who had enough gas to win the cup.

Anyways I apologize, I realize this is obviously a somewhat touchy topic, but never did I take anything away from the Sabres, I was just acknowledging that the Canes were also a good team.
