I looked, but didn't see this anywhere, so I am a gunna vent.

PLay a little poker last night at Party Poker, made a deposit for $50 via neteller, no issues playing like normal. End up with $28 in my account. Low and behold go their this morning, site is down for maintenance, but i needed my neteller ID , so i click into my account and get this.

The President of the United States has signed legislation that now causes PartyGaming to have to cease taking wagers from US customers. We will also suspend accepting deposits from US customers while we reevaluate our business model for the US and assess potential offerings to US customers that would be within the new law.

This will not affect the Play For Free games and we will be seeking to provide additional products and services to our US player community.

Naturally, your PartyAccount will remain accessible.

Non-US players and all Play For Free services will not be affected.

So, now i cant play there, and I cannot withdraw less tha $50 on cash out. WTF, not a lot of money, but still pretty pissed.

Got on the web and see they announced a few days ago they would be doing this, but do you think it would have hurt them to put a FRIGGEN WARNING on their site!!!!!

This has been pretty big news all over the place.

Card Player has a lot of info.

I have $50 or $60 that I'm just going to wait it out.

Same with Paradise:

http://www.paradisepoker.com/news/us_legislation.html

What's weird is they say I can still play until November 13th, but it won't let me login.

I hate our government tacking on crap to the end of real bills.

EDIT: After reading the page again, I realized that I fall into this category:

"...we will no longer be able to offer US players the ability to transfer funds to each other using the ‘Send Money To Player’ function or to transfer funds to Sportsbook.com."

Since my account was with Sportsbook.com, I can't use that money to play at Paradise.:devil::devil:

What if I tell them I moved to Canada? :P

Congress missed the boat big time with this. Jon Kyl ® Arizona took an issue that the majority of the country wanted legalized, and with the backing of Vegas and Christian groups did the complete oposite. This new landscape is begging for more bookies to surface, more money laundering, and more undeclared winnings. This country spends billions of dollars a year online gambling. We could regulate and bring in more tax dollars. Instead we decide to ban it. Good job A-Hole

How long before the government has their own legal online gambling site. Me thinks not very long.

Never happen. It's easier and cheaper to regulate and tax it.

Which is the whole reason they wanted online gambling banned to begin with. Much harder to regulate and tax.

True, I mean they make so much money on poker machines and roulette which have odds totally against you.

Are there any government controlled casino's in the US?

Jon Kyl called online gambling the crack cocaine of this century. It's a complete witch hunt, backed by two very influential groups. How hard would it really be to regulate? The casinos and sportsbook desperately want to do business with the US. It's where 80% of their business comes from. If we dialed them up and allowed them to do business with American customers they would release the names of American customers. The clients themselves would have to agree, but as an online gambler myself I would gladly, especially if it meant my money was secure. They could even run the casino's themselves but I suspect that was never considered as Vegas would freak. The biggest mistake they made was banning online poker. They could have just targeted sports betting which is still more of a niche thing. Poker is huge, and many influential people like to play online.

And why should the government get involved in day-do-day operations and have to pay the overhead when they can just take a cut?

And personally, I think I'd get a better rate of return at the slots than I would from the US Congress, anyway.

Yes and no. The government dosen't run casinos...but they regulate those who do. So the government doesn't operate casinos...but they indirectly "control" them.

State governments, that is. The federal government...I don't think it has a thing to do with gambling, at least not until this recent bill.

Ah, because we have one casino in Montreal but it's owned and run as a crown corporation of the Quebec government.

And what's even funnier, they want to move it to the downtown area so gamblers who don't own vehicules can go burn their savings there.

Big government at its best.

Here, we just have state lotterys. So when the math-challenged people go to the 7/11 to cash their gubmint welfare checks, they can give a good chunk of it right back to the state while they're buying their 40 oz. malt liquors.

I went there a few times in the late 1990's when we used to go to Montreal every year...Casino, Habs game, Winston Churchills, Wanda's, Chez Paris, and end the night at the .99 cent pizza/peep show..good times...

Same thing here. Loto-Quebec. The only good thing to come out of government controlled gambling is Mise-O-Jeu which is sports betting but of small amounts (minimum bets are 2$).

The biggest joke are lotto machines which are now removed from bars and convenience stores because of the addiction problem but are allowed to be played in the casino.

There is no Chez Paris, I think you mean Chez Paré. I heard that it's the #1 strip club in Canada, which is a joke since the one time i went there, the girls looked hideous.

It has changed now, what once was Ste Catherine and Crescent street is now being up-staged by St Laurent street. 250$ for a bottle of vodka though, !@#$ing rip-off.
