Fezmid
Well it sounds like he probably got in more trouble for having the kiddie porn. 797933 Last I checked, 2 years and eight months was greater than six months... "He was sentenced at Liverpool crown court to two years and eight months' in jail for the race hate crime and six months consecutively for the child pornography offences." I didn't see the bottom part of the article You didn't read the article?! Wow, I'm amazed. ( to be fair, this one did have a lot more words than the last one you refused to read). Would you like to try again?

Just don't know why you comment on every article without actually reading it is all. I misunderstood what you said when I replied.

I misunderstood what you said when I replied. 797949 Well even if I didn't read it.. to which I did now.. my opinion stays the same since I just finished reading 3 articles about people getting arrested for comments made on the internet. Unfortunately for a few bad apples, everything will be scrutinized and people will get arrested for this sh-- more and more often. For example, a dude in Quebec was arrested for making posts on a white supremicist site and his posts were racist in nature. The police invaded his house, found illegal firearms. Generally, we've all enjoyed the freedom of being able to say what we want openly on the internet while the only problems we would face would be the flames of other posters. Now, slowly, you're hearing more about people getting arrested for comments made on the net. Now I don't condone what the guy said (the racist remarks), these events are crossing the line that they can't turn back on.

I'm torn on this one. Generally I'm very pro-liberty, but where do you draw the line? Inciting racial tensions isn't a good idea, and I don't know if it should be protected. I guess I'd like to see what the guy was writing... Now in the article you're quoting, that's different. The forum was dedicated to racism, so I don't have as much of a problem with that (content aside). Not quite black and white (no pun intended), but I do lean towards your view I think. The other ones were about a couple of kids who made comments against their schools, I can't find them. The problem is, let's say for example, someone hacks my forum account on let's say this forum and goes and makes death threats. It's just a scenario but a very possible one at that. By arresting people and not laying any direct law citing who can and who can't be prosecuted by internet comments, you're going to have many many problems. So your scenario can't happen, unless your actual PC was compromised, and the police wouldn't go through all that trouble unless there was something really bad (or at least, I would hope that's the case...) I tried going to bugmenot.com to get a password, but none of them worked. Darn. CW

The Supreme Court upheld this right. If I read it right, it would be the same thing that just b/c they marched in stupid khaki clothing wearing swastikas and verbally promoting (what was actually a small part of) Nazism, the police can break down their doors, search their drawers, and use their toilet. The First Amendment provides "freedom for the thought we hate." The other 99% of us can only hope to stamp it out by using the First in like kind to promote tolerance.
