Destiny USA Project In Syracuse!

Recommended Posts

I assume there's a lot of Buffalo Bills fans in Syracuse and I actually see them post here.

I would like to know what Destiny USA is. Is it a mall like the Mall Of America in Minnesota? Is it a conference center with retail stores and hotel rooms?

And is it going to be done or is it mired in state & local politics? I read articles in the Syracuse Post-Standard but I still don't have a clear picture of what this project actually is.

I'm curious as to what people who actually live in Syracuse think about Destiny USA.

Economically speaking, the metro-NYC area takes care of itself and the state pumps tons of money in the Albany economy via state employees payroll and big projects so it's probably about time politicians actually addressed the rest of NYS.

Thanks!

I don't think any one really know what it could become if it ever happens. It could just be an expanded mall or it could be something like what Xanadu was going to be at the Meadowlands in NJ. It could become the largest green based development in the world. It might contains lots of hotels, aquarium, sports and entertainment stadiums, etc. etc.

Are you kidding me... this has failure of Ryan Leaf proportions written all over it.  I don't think Syracuse has the economy to support something like this.  There is no way it can compete with places like Myrtle Beach for tourists.  Here they are building a new performing arts and technology center.  Construction has already started on the $400 million Hard Rock theme park.  Even Disney is looking into building a theme park here.  This thing is a bad idea...

It isn't trying to compete with Myrtle Beach. But it is in the center of an area that is within driving distance from Toronto, New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. Plus the Turning Stone Casino is 45 minutes away. Since much of the manufacturing has left Syracuse (I lost my job when Carrier closed manufacturing last year), I'll take anything that has the chance of generating job opportunities. Nobody is coming forth with alternative projects for the area.

Nobody has mentioned that it sits right on top of a former Oil storage site. Saw the pictures on the web page and noticed all the oil tanks taht used to be there.

The current mall sits on top of an old industrial waste yard. So some old oil fields isn't going to stop them, if they ever start construction.

Those tanks were removed and cleaned up years ago. There's also an inner harbor that was built in that area.
