Why don't you like McCain?

I know you weren't asking me, but IMO McCain is a douche. He has marketed himself as the total "anti-polician" while making decidedly political moves. The McCain I would even entertain voting for died, the moment he put his lips on W's ass after the dirty campaign Rove ran against him. The McCain I would even entertain voting for would have denounced that kind of campaign for good and looked for a third party to run on after being sold down the river by his own. Instead, he's looking to see if they'll help him out next time.

I've agreed with a few of his policies, but he's a long way from being a candidate I'd support in a national election.

Can you really fault him for it though?

He knows as well as anyone that running as a 3rd party candidate means the death of your campaign.

Well, then end the pretense that he's not beholden to special interests. Because these two parties are about as exemplary a definition of special interests as I can find. He wears the maverick label like a medal, but he'll kiss ass if he needs to to win. He'll throw principle to the wind if it means he'll win. I won't be voting for him, ever.

So, he is acting like a typical politician?

I agree with you, I used to like McCain, he was a refreshing alternative. However, in the last few years he really has become more and more establishment.

Which is why we'll be chanting Rudy, Rudy in 08!

I can't say I fault the guy for doing what any contending politican would do.

I think you can if doing just that is antithetical to the kind of campaign he says he's going to run, and the kind of person he's claiming to be. If you're going to say "any contending politician is to some degree a hypocrite," then perhaps you're right. I hope/wish it's not that cynical.

...and this is exactly why we are stuck with the politicians that we currently have "representing" us. People allow this type of behavior to continue.

No, we're stuck with these politicians because the rules of the game favor two large parties, and voters who are genuinely disinterested in politics.

I know that the rules favor the Big Two, but if you are not going to hold your politicians acocuntable, why the hell should they change?

Who is going to hold them accountable exactly? The few of us that do take an interest in politics?
