Gotta Dream
4 and 2 goes for it, Jets march down for a TD. Fake field goal. Bootleg call on 3rd and goal. I know it was poor execution. But these were all ways that changed the momentum of the game....
BuffOrange
Any play that doesn't work is going to change the momentum. Criticism of the bootleg and most of this other stuff is just hindsight IMO. It seems pretty clear to me that they should've taken two downs to run the ball when it was 3rd&3 rather than throw and then fake a FG; but there's no way you kick a 53 yd FG on 4th&3. Gotta Dream
You are right in that this is all hindsight, but... If we shouldn't try a 53 yard field goal, what's wrong with allowing our All Pro punter pin them deep in their zone and allowing our D, which was smothering them at the time, control the game? We should have won the field position game in this one.

Personally I'm a big math guy; and trotting either your punter or FG kicker onto the field in that spot is absurd IMO. Don't ask me to explain the pass/pass/fake FG sequence. I was a huge advocate of kicking a FG vs. NE, although that opinion of mine wouldn't have changed if the Pats had gone 3&out instead of driving 93 yards. Bottom line is our defense can't give up a TD every time the offense and/or coaches screws up.
