Bagel Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 I agree gmac17. I'd say that Sullivan also reminds me of Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy. He's so dour that you wonder if he even likes sports.
Guest Guest Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Let me start off, I am no fan of Jerry Sullivan. And, I disagree with most of what he said in todays column ("this team is going nowhere"?). I do agree with him, however, in the reguard that TD drafted McGahee, knowing that the day would come when one of these two guys would be gone. It would not be TD's way to let Travis become a free agent and slip away. He will get something for him. I would be opposed to trading either Travis or McGahee, but I think we do have to ask what is out there right now, that would make trading one or the other a good move. In other words, what can we get for one of them. You now have two very desperate teams (Miami and Philadelphia), can you get a starting OL and a second or third draft pick for Travis? If not, don't make the trade. If so, it wouldn't hurt to listen. If the Bills didn't pull the trigger on a trade for one of these guys now, their feelings will be hurt, but so what. Sullivan is right, this "controversy" won't go away, unless one is gone, injured or just flat out sucks! 3655 The thing I can't comprehend is how some people say Donahoe was creating controversy when he drafted McGahee. So is a GM never supposed to draft a player because of fear of offending his starters? It's the frickin' NFL, and unlike baseball, every player is playing for his job every day. Screw up, and the guy on the bench is ready to replace you. That's the deal. No tears...just suck it up. Bravo to Donahoe taking a chance on a guy who could be great. Controversy exists only in the twisted imaginations of douche bag writers like Jerry Sullivan. He is the glaring example of what I hate about the media, especially sports columnists who can write any crap they want with impugnity. There is no controversy. Want proof? Look at the New England Patriots. What did Ty Law's temper tantrum get him? Nothing! He wanted a trade. The press screamed "controversy!" But he's still a Patriot after Bill Belechick opened up a can of "shut the hell up!" PTR
theNose76 Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 I'm finished with this joke. I used to think this guy had some insight into the team, but its become more and more apparent that he's simply a miserable shmuck. It's not because I tend to disagree with him, I can enjoy reading articles or opinions that I don't agree with. I really think he hates this team and it colors every opinion piece he writes. If I want to read "The Bills suck" articles all the time, I'll go read the Miami Herald. To say that we should trade Henry now, when its obvious we don't know what we have in McGahee and Henry is hurt, is simply assinine. He simply hates Donahoe and the team and is ready to pack it in. Go watch some more St. Bonnie basketball, Jerry. RunTheBall 3470 Completely agreed. Sullivan just doesn't come off well at all to the type of sports fans in this city. We've all been around through tons of adversity, but usually stay positive and optimistic. Meanwhile, all his stories in the past 10 months or so have been absolutely negative it really kills me. I hope the News realizes this and tells him to either grow up and start writing about sports instead of his childish hatred of Donahoe/Bledsoe/everyone on the team or take his sorry act out of this town. Period.
Alaska Darin Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Jerry Sullivan is either on Drew Rosenhaus' payroll, or just a complete tool. I nearly fell out of my chair when I read his article. He proves Donahoe's point about the media just looking to stir up trouble. Sullivan must want the Bills to fail just so he can rip the team. Trade a proven veteran just to make some unproven rookie coming off a major knee injury happy??? Is this guy smoking crack??? PTR 3483 C'mon Promo. Look at this board. Everytime something gets reported the majority jump around like retards who've slammed a sixer of Jolt and a Costco sized pack of pop rocks. Sullivan is playing to them.

That is why almost every media outlet covering the story on Saturday led with "McGahee Demands Trade" or something to the effect claiming that McGahee himself demanded the trade. Even though at the bottom of every story was the minor blurb that McGahee denied making the statement, It did not matter. The media, and most of the people on this board, needs this story, and will not be denied the controversy, whether or not there really is a controversy. Drew Rosenhaus gave the media and most everyone here a nice little christmas present in August. Guys like Mike Florio and Jerry Sullivan are more than willing to be Drews 'bottom' and take it from him, too. We, as fans, have to be smarter than what is being shoveled at us from the media.

An ambulance chaser. And you'll always have the American Idol crowd that'll respond.
Lori Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Go watch some more St. Bonnie basketball, Jerry. RunTheBall 3470 Please, God, no. Don't you dare send him down here. The one line that sums up the whole article.... " He tends to get hurt because of his punishing style. Saturday night's rib injury was merely the latest example." Ummm, no, he got hurt because he got hung out to dry on a swing pass, by a tackler who hit him from behind. Tell me how that translates to an example of getting hurt 'because of his punishing style'. Anyone? Bueller? BuffNews should've hired Amy Moritz's brother, Brian. He's already better.
Guest Guest Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Everyone thinks Jerry's sucks, but it's the truth, and the truth is ugly!
MrJaimie Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Everyone thinks Jerry's sucks, but it's the truth, and the truth is ugly! 3977 Yeah, well your mama's so ugly that you have to hide behind an anoymous ID!!!
Nanker Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Everyone thinks Jerry's sucks, but it's the truth, and the truth is ugly! 3977 Hmmmm. Let's see... Everyone thinks Jerry's sucks, 3977 I for one am wondering what that belongs to Jerry that you think we all feel sucks? His ass? His columns? His attitude? His hate for the Bills? His love for the Dolfags? but it's the truth, 3977 IS it the truth that everyone thinks that something that Jerry has sucks? Not indisputable, but pretty close to the truth for this crowd. Hell, I'm sure we don't think that all Jerrys suck. Just this one in particular, but more specifically, the columns he floats. and the truth is ugly! 3977 But the truth shall make your free! Free and ugly. I'll bet you are just that.
Guest Guest_FredD_* Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 I don't know if I should be mad at TD for going paws up to Drew Rodenhaus and select WM in the first round thereby giving Rodenhaus leverage or Rodenhaus for crapping all over the Bills based on 2 preseason performances that I don't rember being better than Lawrence Phillips?<p> I thought TD was going to be an awesome GM, but so far he is too smart by half. He has out smarted himself. The Bills need linemen to make everyone effective.
stuckincincy Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 The Bills need linemen to make everyone effective. 4151 Yep. Football 101.
Peterejn Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 Sullivan is/was a big buddy of Chuck Dickerson. Need I say more?
