Pete Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Easiest way to lose weight is do cardio and watch your diet. Create a calorie defecit. Mix up the cardio so it doest get boring. Start off walking and biking, work up to trail running and spinning classes, etc. Jumping rope is fantastic. Lift some light weights to tone your body- the more muscle mass the faster your metabolism. I love Pilates, Yoga, Probodx and Bodypump classes. Motivation? Sign up for a Yoga class- you probably will be the only male there surrounded by beautiful, very toned women. Get a gym membership and USE IT! Sign up for classes. Chart your progress. Dont get so caught up with weight- pay attention to body fat and strength and stamina gains instead. I really like Pilates and results are very quick. Get a Pilates disc and try it out first before joining the gym. That will only run you $15 as opposed to $600+ a year. Like the old Nike add- Just Do It!

Pete Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 you dont need any special equipment for pilates? 782509 nothing! A carpet and some comfortable clothes. Do it at home 3 times a week and I guarantee you will see results in a week.
Spun Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Spinning is a great workout! It is done with a group and depending on where you go the other people in the class change from meeting to meeting. You go at your own pace and you sweat off the fat and water and build endurance and strength. Try it and keep with it and you will be happy with the results. Cycling on your own would help you build up to a good pace for the spinning class! Alternatively, jogging can be more vigorous than the treadmill and more interesting. Jogging can be rough on the aging body so start slow and keep your mileage at a comfortable level. You are getting some great advice. Weight lifting, punching bags, yoga, jumping rope are all great fitness options. Make sure you include the stretching. I have been keeping a log for five years after taking a Diet and Exercise class at a local community college. The key is being honest about what you record. If you didn't workout one day, week, month you still record what you did for that day etc. Make one goal for each week. One week it may be running once or twice or jumping rope or doing the time tested pushups and situps. One hour on the stairmaster is great exercise! If you cross train or mix up your routine it helps keep things interesting. If you are near a college, check into joining their gym. Some schools have recreation centers that are cheap and some are also available for the community at large for a higher price. I am not currently enrolled at San Diego State but I pay $19 per month for their recreation center which opens at 8:00 am on Sunday and doesn't close again until 10:00 pm on Fridays with limited hours on Saturday. It has free weights, weight machines, punching bags group classes (spinning, yoga, among others) and personal training which is another great option to keep one involved. http://arc.sdsu.edu/ Good luck!!!
BuffaloBud Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 I usually pick up the Pilates video around end Feb / first March to get ready for golf. Great for the back and flexibility. One other "routine" that I used to use was to mix in a bit of weight circuit with 20min each of bike, stairs, treadmill.

John from Riverside Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 after way too long leading a sedentary(sp) lifestyle, I figur I need to start doing something....So I have been doing a treadmill every morning for 1/2 hour and going 2.15 miles(equivilent), going at a pretty good walking clip. But that is so goddamed boring. I see all these different classes at different facilities and can't make heads or tails. Pilates, Spinning, Kick Boxing etc...my goal is to lose wait, tone and get in shape. I do not want to spend every waking hour at a gym, just looking to do something 3 times a week and get the best results. anyone have any good advice for a 43 year old tub of goo??? btw, i have been watching my diet lately and am up to about 10 pounds off in the past 3 weeks.... thanks in advance. 781877 In my opinion working out at home all the time is freaking boring as hell....I enjoy going to the gym myself....or at least I used to before this car accident *$&$ed up my back. Lots of advantages of going to the gym.....when you in a room with others who are doing the same thing it is motivating.....it gives you a reason to by some workout gear.....it gives you a reason to download some cool MP3 player music and listen to it while working out...... Oh yeah....and of course then there are the hot women.....I am a married man but I would be fibbing if I didn't enjoy watching the opposite sex walking on that stairstepper...

Those are fun but I don't find that they emphasize on the fighting. Is there a sparring session for advanced members?
