According to a number of sources, Kurt Angle is rumored to be surprisingly returning to action with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Dave Hawk, Angle's manager, has apparently contacted media outlets in recent days, informing that Angle is slated to make his MMA debut in 2007. Angle also recently revealed his desire to work in MMA when interviewed with magazine Real Fighter.

One name being touted as a possible opponent for Kurt Angle is former WWE Tough Enough winner Daniel Puder, who has been making comments about fighting Angle in UFC next year. Whether this is legitimate or just a stunt to increase interest is unknown. The name of Brock Lesnar is also being thrown around as a possible opponent for Angle. The pair are no strangers to each other after having a memorable feud in WWE, which included them headlining WrestleMania in Seattle, Washington.

If Angle were to appear in MMA, it would raise the profile with the curiosity factor, which could in turn lead to higher interest levels, ratings, and PPV buyrates. His signing could also pull in the crossover fans, and even new ones.

Angle's injuries remain an issue and whether he could compete in MMA with them remains to be seen. One thing that is for certain, since his departure from World Wrestling Entertainment, Angle has become one of the most-wanted commodities in the wrestling industry.

and a statement by Angles camp

The following is from Kurt Angle's camp:

Dear Angle Friends and Fans:

Kurt "The Machine" Angle wants to truly thank everyone for their concerns and best regards to his recovery and wellness. Kurt continues to read your kind messages and he feels truly blessed to have your support, as your well wishes continue to strengthen him mentally and physically. He also apologizes as he would love to reply to you everyone but unfortunately due to timing with his family, his rehabilitation, training, and business leaves very little time to converse.

Kurt wants me to update you, he's happy to express his physical condition is fastly rebounding. When Kurt left WWE, he was beaten and battered down at a mirror 220. Over the past many weeks with the right rest, a wonderful wife who is preparing the ideal diet, daily physical therapy, and back to good strength training we are happy to report he's up to a solid 240 with about 85% full flexibility....

As you may have seen or heard the latest news, Kurt Angle is a huge fan of all MMA programs (K1, UFC, PRIDE, WEC, and IFL to name a few) this former Olympic Gold Medalist and Extreme Athlete has the heart and the deep driven passion to show he's the best of the best. Angle has his sight on a full physical recovery and plans a day to put it all on the line....Real Fighter will have the exclusive....

FWIW I truly hope he doesnt do this. The man has serious injuies for years now. I know hes driven by an insane desire to compete, but after avoiding potentialy life threatining injuries for year I hope for his own sake he leaves well enough alone

It'll be interesting to see if he could get medical clearance with the neck injuries he's suffered. I get that he's a great athlete and a terrific real wrestler, but today's MMA guys are no joke.

I can't picture him in the ring against Arlovski, Silvia, Cro-cop, or Fedor. They'd destroy him.

You're right man, bad idea Kurt. Would he be heavy weight though? Or lite-heavy? These guys are so well rounded now days it's sick. Most of them have 1 primary art they have studied but are considered well-versed in others. Which, makes them extremely lethal.

By the way it's almost time to watch Shamrock put into retirement by Tito.

Edit:

I can't picture any of those fighters in the ring against Fedor. He is the best in the world and Tim Silvia or Arlovski wouldn't last.

It says he's 240 - light heavy in UFC is 205. Arlovski fought Silvia at 235, I believe.

Ask Royce Gracie how much it's changed - he got PUMMELED by Matt Hughes in almost no time. Today's MMA is so much different it's almost scary. Almost no specialists anymore, you have to be able to handle just about anything.

I can't wait for that to be over. I only hope the referee let's it go on a little longer this time, so Shamrock has NO reason to come back. I've never liked that guy and he's a parody of the guy I at least had respect for. He fought harder with the referee after the bell than he did when Tito was dropping elbows on his melon. Pathetic performance.

I think Arlovski would give him a run - as long as his chin held up. He's got it all. Unfortunately for him, Silvia is in his head and for whatever reason he can't get past it. Their last fight was despicable.

I actually spent money on that fight. The Tito-Shamrock fight sucked and then the heavy weights were even worse imo. They danced around for 5 rounds and did absolutely nothing. Not too excited about Hughes-Penn 2, but Franklin-Silva should be great. Oh.. Tito fights Lidell in December if or when he beats Shamrock. Here anything about Wanderli Silva-Lidell?

Really? I still think Penn beat St Pierre and he's got alot of motivation to not let the judges decide this fight. Lots of good story lines in that one. Could be really memorable.

The last I heard Liddell is fighting Silva in early November. I know that depended on how Silva did at the Grand Prix, but I didn't see that. If he got hurt in any way, there's no way he'd make the turnaround.

Thanks. I just think that Hughes is going to roll Penn in no time at all. He has grown tremendously over the course of the last couple years and I see him holding that title for a long time (in mma standards).

On the other hand Chuck is nasty. He could hold that belt for awhile also. His stand up and defense are superb. If any of them want to beat Chuck they have to take him out of his element and put him on the matt.

Anyway good fights coming up and I'm psyched about them.

Is it just me or is there something lacking in the new tuf series?

Depends. He knows what he is getting into. If he gets the proper training and is able to be strong on his feet and more importantly, in close quarter, he should be able to compete.

It bores me, too. Shoney Carter is a punk and someone needs to punch Matt Serra's head flat. I was pissed when that guy went over the wall and they kicked him off the show - he was my sleeper.

Oh, and Pete Spratt is a kitty.
