Miami's return man just crushed him as he was stepping out of bounds. It was kind of a cheap shot but they say you always have to be ready. He is spending time in the hot tub today I'm guessing.

ans4e64 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 There's no way that was a cheap shot, the punt returner is allowed to block anyone to keep them from downing the ball, and with Welker knowing the ball was going to bounce near the goal line and leonhard right there why would he not try and keep him from downing it? Good hit. Leonhard needs to wake up.

But he was seriously less than a foot from being out of bounds and a good 5-10 yards away from the ball. It was cheap but within the legal rules.

How can it be cheap if he was fair game? if the ball bounces at the one, Leonard dives into the end zone and knocks it back in and it's downed at the one, Welcher (sp?) gets booed by the Miami faithful. i'm sure he heard them booing Culpepper, and figured "Damn, they'd booing the guy maing $8 mill a year, they'll tear me up".

If he puts a hand up he's not allowed to touch anybody from that point on, but if he doesn't signal he's a live blocker.

I wasnt paying attention, but I would think that if he did and proceeded with the hit he would have gotten a penalty, but I didnt see it.
