LabattBlue Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Even better news...the NFTA wants to get out of the waterfront development business(outer harbor parcel) and would like to turn the land over to the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20060917/1030264.asp
smokinandjokin Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Even better news...the NFTA wants to get out of the waterfront development business 777809 Their incredible record of development thus far speaks for itself. Thankfully they acknowledge their own incompetence.
5 Wide Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Very good article in the NYT, thank god the NFTA is finally withdrawing their stifling control over what should be prime real estate.
Mark from Albany Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Oh, hey, I've worked with that writer before. She's based in Westchester County. She's really good, really fair. I'll even send her a "thank you" e-mail.
Lurker Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I'll lay odds this story was a plant by either Spitzer or Hillary....
buckeyemike Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Did anyone notice in the article that the city is still negotiating with Bass Pro Shops for the Aud? That's going on two years now, isn't it?
smokinandjokin Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Did anyone notice in the article that the city is still negotiating with Bass Pro Shops for the Aud? That's going on two years now, isn't it? 779235 It is more cost-effective to demolish the Aud and build new. That's the current plan at the moment. I fully expect that one to continue it's orbit in the holding pattern.
Marv's Neighbor Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 It seems to be unusually fact based, for the NYT! KEEP THE AUD! If Bass Pro wants to come in there's plenty of other property options.
GG Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Now if they just create an enterprise tax zone in WNY, I'll be ready to move back Could be an interesting opportunity for a real estate fund up there...
Chef Jim Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 “It’s about tourism, but it’s also about quality of life,” he said. “There are a dozen colleges and universities in the area, with 100,000 college students. But they don’t stay. If you were to keep all that brainpower, then you’d have an economy.” Bingo. You have to give people a reason to LIVE there, not just visit. Why would I want to the same amount in taxes for this: Fond Memories As I pay for this. California
