My random long thoughts

I'm not sure what the WNY consensus is on Schopp & Buldogg but I think they're pretty terrific; even though they're unecessarily full of themselves at times. I'd like to echo many of their postgame comments. The national media isn't going to give the Bills any props for how they've played these first two games, it's going to be all about Miami stinking it up; so just know that ahead of time, deal with it and stop whining about it. The only thing that can change that is consistent winning. We're not a glamour franchise because it's not cool to be a Bills fan like it is to be a Dolphins/Cowboys/Raiders fan and to me that's what makes being a Bills fan cool. It becomes less cool IMO, when we're crying about respect in every other thread. If you'll recall we got some uncharacteristic respect after destroying the Pats & Jags in the first two games of 2003 which was mildly fun to see us in the national spotlight for really only the 2nd time since the internet boom (the first being Flutie's 1998 season), but in the end it was not as much fun as watching your teams win games under the radar and go to the playoffs. Enough ranting, on to the game.

JP was ok. The protection wasn't very good, but the Dolphins were blitzing a lot. Liked the way he made the hot reads and got rid of the ball. Dierdorf made a good point on Evans not reading the blitz on the one 3rd down incompletion. One thing that bothers me still is his understanding of game situations. A sack on 3rd down on the opponent's 40 is a good sack if there is such a thing, and yet he showed more urgency and desparation getting rid of that ball (nearly fumbling as a result) than he did on the safety last week. Overall not a bad game. Could've easily been ~160 and 2 TD's if Evans doesn't get tackled and the nittish offensive PI call.

I really like the way McGahee ran today; very decisive, taking what was there, and not trying to bounce every run outside. Last year he seemed to play that way after being scrutinized, such as the Atlanta game after Mularkey criticized him for being hesitant vs. Tampa. Maybe just a coincidence; but I'd like to see him take the next step and play with a chip on his shoulder every week, regardless of whether people are ripping or praising him in a given week. Again good game; pretty dumb of Bulldog to make any significance out of <4.0 ypc since he was well over 4.0 prior to the last 2 or 3 drives when Miami had ~18 guys in the box.

Defensively, great game obviously. I did think that Mularkey & Culpepper's futility had a lot to do with it. Didn't look like we really had an answer for Ronnie Brown and good ole MM helped us out when the game was well within reach in the 3rd Qtr. Still, Dante didn't look nearly as inept for 3+ quarters in Pittsburgh, so our guys deserve some credit. In terms of long term health of our run D, I kinda think we need Spikes back.

One thing I've noticed in these first two games is that we seem to respond to our own success better within a game than past years. The first drive of the 2nd half vs. NE was a good example; even though the infamous 4th & 1 play was the ultimate result; past Bills teams would've thought "OMG we're ahead in NE - time to go 3&out" but JP made some plays on 3rd down to move down this field.

How many times in the last 5 years have you seen our D dominate for a while and then give up an immediate score following a rare score by our offense? Today they made a stop and immediately got off the field the possession after the score to put us up 10-0...I felt that might've been the biggest series of the whole game.

Special Teams - nice. Sign April to a 10 year extension.

Dude....we just beat the fish in their house. Have a drink and enjoy it for gosh sakes. I think you misinterpret a lot of the "whining" you're making reference to. I can't speak for everyone on this site, but the vast majority of us don't give two craps what the national medial think of our team. If you read the threads closely, the point of most f them is something to the effect of, "wow, can you believe how out of touch this guy is? Clearly he's just writing out of his ass and not even following what's going on with the team".

I don't care that the game wasn't PERFECT today....it was a HUGE win in a game that was supposed to be "easy" and "routine" for the dolphins. We have a young team who are learning a new system and/or adjusting to the NFL.....why don't you allow yourself to savor the victory a little before you start getting caught up in all the negative crap.

In the last four hours I've called my brother & father to celebrate, had a drink, visited 3 Dolphin boards, and sent a joyous brag email to the token "bust your balls trash-talker" in my fantasy league, who happened to start Culpepper today. I know I'm not failing to savor the win, nor spinning "negative crap", so if I'm misinterpreting something I'm not alone.

I Want everybody to think about this...Once this Defense starts to play instinctively, and feels real comfortable with the new defense, and TKO starts to gets his legs back..WATCH OUT! Couble be a top 5 defense. This secondary holds a seat for noone. Donte Whitner will be considered a star by week six!

Lastly, anybody else feel that maybe TKO's hammie might have been a good thing giving his heel a little bit more rest??

I'm with ya, bro....I was AMAZED at how good our defense looked today given that we had so many rooks in there. I can't wait to get TKO fully healthy, cause I agree with you that his presence alone will take us to a new level. I think we need to have a little patience with the offense, but our defense is showing that they are already a force to be reckoned with.
