John from Riverside
My son will be playing his first home game (freshman HS football) today. Besides the fact that he has whittled his way up through the depth charts and plays: Starting FB Starting OLB Long Snapper Defensive Captain Today the Varsity coaches will be out watching the freshman team play.....probably looking for a "few fine young men" to make the jump to Varsity next year. Our school is in CIF - 5 so they have some pretty good competition. Our school has games for starters on Fridays and games for reserves on Saturday mornings.....my son also drags his but out of bed and helps out the coaches on Saturday mornings with getting the players water.....helping them out with their gear when they come off the field...etc etc. Brett has never been a team captain before I think he is relishing in the role very well for a 14 year old. The other players respect him because they know he is an enforcer on the field and works with players who need help with thier technique. High School football is fun
