Whitner looked great

Whitner damn near won the game for us there. And Simpson did a nice job filling in when Vincent got injured. Marv's draft looked pretty good today.

The young players didn't lose the game for us today. It was mistakes by veterans that ended up killing us.

It was nice to see Witner get the pick.  But overall they got worked by the TE's and were a non-factor in run support.  Overall they looked like rookies and have a long way to go.

How is that; the LBs got worked over on a few plays but over all over Run D lost this game. The secondary played a pretty good game as they held Brady in check and got an int. In the 2nd half the pass rush slowed down a bit. I was actually encouraged by their play.

The safeties got worked a lot in the 4th quarter on those long TE seam routes. That helped NE run the clock. In addition to our inability to stop the run.

The Pats got 2 seam passes: the one to Watson after the stop on 4th and 1 after he blew by Fletcher and split the safeties and the 4th quarter pass in which Simpson was in the deep middle. Other than that they were fine as Vincent and Wire probably wouldn't have faired much better. If the Pats didn't have success running the ball OR we had converted that 4th and 1 and went up 24-7, the running game would have been an afterthought and our guys would have been able to pin their ears back and bust Brady up like they did in the 1st half.

I agree as well.

Whitner is a rather small safety and does look like a rookie. He has to learn the techniques needed to ignore his small size and still make plays. Teams are going to try to isolate him one on one with tight ends for the rest of the season and he has to learn how to use his quickness and speed as a way of beating them.

Ko Simpson on the other hand was great at stopping ball carriers after they made the catch or they were already down field. I have no doubt in Simpson's ability as a player, but the pass to Rache Caldwell was clearly his fault. He was supposed to have inside support on that play after the corner was beat and he was late on the coverage. Ultimately made the stop, but late on the coverage.

I hope that these two get starts down the road, but this team is not ready for four defensive starters this early in the season. I could see starting Whitner because Coy just sucks, but you have to keep the experience of Troy Vincent in there for a few more weeks until someone else (Whitner) learns how to be the leader in the secondary.

VA, for once I agree with you.

I'll agree with the non factor in run game but Brady only completed 11 passes and at no point got into a passing rhythm; I can see if Brady was picking us apart with efficecny. I mean he throw a pick in the 4th quarter by Whitner that if it wasn't for questionable block and play stoppage, he'd be on ESPN right now and all those guys would be saying what a genius pick by Marv. If our run D was more discipline and stayed in their lanes and our offense didn't become conservative, there is no way we lose this game. I mean for their first action they played very well; you can't expect them to be Pro Bowlers right out the gate.

Well there was 2 long and one mid range pass to the TE's. The incomplete in the endzone to Graham was also bad coverage. Finally Simpson had the inside on the long pass to Caldwell. Otherall in the second half that was 5 of the key plays and our Safeties chocked on all of them. In addition, they were non-existant in run support, so overall 1 pick and a poor game otherwise.
