BF_in_Indiana Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Went down to the end but not a lot in the way of action as far as sustained drives and whatnot. Willis was alright tonight, but 11 carries for 28 yards isn't exactly something to write home about. Travis fumbles AGAIN. I'm sorry but he just is not a franchise back. You can't be considered a franchise back when you put the ball on the ground every other game.
Guest Guest Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 I agree on all three accounts. I'll amplify the boring part by saying today's NFL is boring, too much player turnover and no continuity. Football needs continuity, particulalrly on offense. Last night was my first look at McGhaee. He looked avarage. I though Simonton had more zip. Kid needs more time to get his game back together.
kasper13 Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Preseason games for the most part are boring. Especially when there are 23 penalties for 200 yards (plus whatever penalties were not accepted and there were multiple times when there were 3 or 4 flags thrown on one play) and only two TD's.
KOKBILLS Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 Well...The Penalties were a bit much on both sides. But I would not call it boring Football (considering it is Pre Season Football after all). One thing I did notice was the fact that Tennessee was 100% more physical than Denver was last week...That's for certain. The Bills stood up pretty well, but a lot of the penalties seemed to be the Bills reacting to a team that was hitting back, and hitting back hard. The Starters left the Game only down 7-6 with about 4 minutes remaining. And considering Tennessee was a MUCH better Team than the Bills last Season, playing the Titans to a near draw early is not bad for Pre Season. Bledsoe and the Starting O did not look bad. On the play Travis got hurt, all DB saw was Travis flashing open while he was...yes he was...scrambling...The throw was a little behind Travis though, and allowed Bullock to really lower the boom. The blocking by the 1st line was hot and cold. Looked great on Travis' big Run and McGahee's 11 yarder, but also got blown up a bit by a very quick and physical Front 7. The Smith Kid held up O.K. at LG, and though I don't have any specific proof, it sure seems like Bledsoe did not receive the pressure up the middle he normally faces. And again this is vs. a good D. The Bills Starting D did give up too many Rushing yards. They got caught by a Draw on 3rd and 10 that kept Tennesee's TD Drive alive. They also gave up a 9 Yard Run on the same Drive, but really got burned by allowing Coy Wire to play with the Starting D at FS. Wire allowed the Tennesse WR (Calico) to catch a Pass in front of him 25 Yards down field on a 3rd and 1 Play Action Pass, then compounded the bad play by letting Calico get around him for 15 more Yards...Not good... Vincent played the TD Pass real well, Calico just made a great play, and may not have had 100% possession of the ball anyway...The long Pass to Calico was really the only big Play Tennessee had vs. the Starting D, and like I said, it looked to me like Wire just blew that Play.... Some other observations...Kevin Thomas and Terrance McGee look REAL good! Both are playing physical and covering well, plus McGee had the long Kickoff return. The 2nd Team Defense was strong...They were flying around the field and made "Bills Killer," QB Billy Volek look human. Volek led 3 Drives and came away with only a FG vs. the 2nd Team D. It seems to me the Bills Depth (2nd and 3rd string) was every bit as good as Tennessee's. It was the fumble by Coleman (and the missed FG by Lindell) that actually ended up costing the Bills this game. JP did a good job reacting to the Blitz on the Play CC fumbled. The Titans Defender just stripped Coleman clean. Good God Tennessee Blitzed JP a ton! I think he did O.K. with it too. Losman read the open guy most of the time and took what the D gave him. Losman ran well again, I just get REAL nervous seeing him running so much... All in all the Bills stood up well vs. a pretty physical Team, and looked physical most of the time themselves. The penalties were far more aggression (and probably Training Camp frustration) than stupidity. And even though it was not pretty, it was not real bad for the 2nd Pre Season game either. I'd like to see Lee Evans get the Ball a bit more, but there's 2 more Games for that. To me, McGahee actually looked a little better tonight, he was just going vs. better 2nd Team Defenders than he did vs. Denver. 2 down and 2 to go... B)
