TheMadCap Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 What about this selection: * Bruce Springstenn triple live album '75-'85 * Lynyrd Skynyrd live in Pittsburgh * U2 Rattle and Hum * J Cash at Folsom * B Dylan at the Royal Albert Hall '66 763626 That Skynyrd is called Live in Steeltown or something such? It's a recent incarnation of the band though, not Ronnie and Steve Gaines...
The Dean Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I thought this would be a intereating topic. 1. The new Led Zeppelin 3 disk set. How the West was Won. 2. Jethro tull- Bursting Out. 3. The Who Live at Leeds 4. Bowie- Ziggy Stardust the movie 5. Allman bros. live at the fillmore. 6. Mahavishnu Orchestra- Between Nothingness and Nowhere 7. Rush- Different Stages 8. Pink Floyd- Is anybody Out there 9. Any Led Zeppelin Soundboard Bootleg from 1975. There is about 7 of Them. 10. A Pink floyd Bootleg from 1975. Its A Aud recording from LA. And the Last One For now is 11. A Rush Bootleg from 1978. A Desert Passage Tuson Az. 760857 My apologies to this not stupid poster. You mentioned the Allman Bros...so delete it from my "omission" list above. As a rule, I'm not a big live albus fan. But there are some great albums in this thread, and the best of the live albums are really outstanding. It's just that there are too many poor live albums, I guess. Here's a shock...I'm no fan of Steely Dan's Alive in America. It's the only Dan album I think is less than great...and I think it's way less than great. Here's a couple of "guilty pleasure" live albums that haven't been mentioned: Mothers of Invention: Fillmore East Dave Mason: Certified Live
PromoTheRobot Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Talking Heads -Stop Making Sense. Best concert I've ever seen. PTR

bflo83 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 That's a great record. I used to be huge into the bootlegs and had a lot of good R.E.M. cassettes. Haven't listened to them in a good long while, though. Even so, their unplugged set was great. Surprised they never released it. Some other choices of mine: Miles Davis / Cellar Door Sessions Coltrane / Live at the Village Vanguard Tony Conrad and Faust / Outside the Dream Syndicate Alive Richard Buckner / Live at Schubas Tavern Dylan / any of the bootleg series that have come out including Live 1975, 1964, 1966. I also have a couple Fugazi shows that they've started selling online. Good stuff. 762147 The Dylan live 1975 bootleg disc is unbelievable - great stuff three others: Johnny Cash at San Quentin ( I think it's even better than Folsom) Jerry Lee Lewis live at the star club - killer! J Geils Band - Blow your face out
rastabillz Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 From my youth: Lynyrd Skynyrd-One More from the Road Genesis- Seconds Out Ted Nugent-Double Live Gonzo
Draconator Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Rush - 30th Anniv. Tour - Radio City Music Hall. 3 Guys were able to sneak professional quality video camera's into one of the Radio City Shows (August, 2004), and produced an amazing DVD Boot!
PromoTheRobot Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Was that the Big Jacket tour? 766319 yes it was...Miami (at Ohio U) 1983 I think HK

NotStuckonStupid Posted September 11, 2006 Author Posted September 11, 2006 well i don't know what you mean by "recent incarnation" but this is a 1997 recording 769094 before the Plane Crash in the 70's.

True alot of the Live Albums are mixed really bad. The reason I like live alums is more times then not the songs are longer and have some improv to them. I forgot about this old gem RUSH- All the Worlds A Stage-(2112) got to love it.
copernicus137 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Derek and the Dominos - Live at the Fillmore (Clapton at his peak) Bob Dylan - Bootleg 5, Rolling Thunder Revue Traffic - Welcome to the Canteen (Mason's last stint) Beatles - Rooftop Concert Delaney and Bonnie - bootleg: live at Fillmore West (better than "on tour"!) Mad Dogs & Englishmen and despite being an official release, the Basement Tapes would probably take the cake for all live/bootlegs based on how it was conceived. The complete basement tapes (a tree with roots) is without overdubs.
copernicus137 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 link to "wolfgang's vault" worth a look
Andrew in CA Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 link to "wolfgang's vault" worth a look My buddy's uncle owns that company, actually. He took a flier on the old Fillmore stuff and has turned a tremendous profit on it. They've got some really cool authentic posters and tshirts and the like from back in the day, if you've got the money to spare on that kind of stuff. Also, I haven't read the thread, but no best live album list is complete without the Grateful Dead's Europe '72.
Cugalabanza Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 The Dylan "All Hallow's Eve, 1964" bootleg is amazing. As far as I know, it still has not been officially released, but it should be. Amazing performances. Dylan is in a great mood, joking with the crowd and really feeling it. One of my all time favorites.
