Back from the game - a few thoughts

Recommended Posts

Willis looked great, especially if what I heard was true about him barfing on the sidelines and unable to rehydrate himself. He just has to protect the ball better when he's fighting for extra yardage.

JP - another up-and-down night. Some great throws, a few clunkers. I don't know if he's being instructed not to run but he's staying in the pocket to a fault in some cases. He still has to learn when to give up on a play and chuck it away. The TD to Evans was a thing of beauty and great to see right after the pick.

Evans - one great RAC on the first series cutting all the way across the field, and of course a gorgeous move to blow by the corner and run after that TD pass.

Villareal gave way to Duke Preston pretty early again. Not sure if it's performance related or they just don't want to wear him out.

Defense - great job on the red zone and on 3rd downs - two of the biggest problem areas last year. Too many penalties though. Some decent pressure without blitzing much. Still pretty vanilla. On one run play off tackle 9 guys were in on the stop.

Not to disagree with Bobby April, but it seems our kick return wedge only has 3 guys plus Anthony Thomas as an escort. I know it wasn't Terrence back there but the coverage was hitting the returner right around the 20 every time.

Holcomb - yawn...

At the beach and missed the game and just getting on and trying to piece together what happened tonight. Is that a *good* OOH! or a *bad* OOH for Nall??????

Did the left side of our line's mobility impress you?  That's one thing that really stuck out to me.  Reyes and Gandy looked great getting down field and blocking for McGahee.

Yeah they moved well. But the block that made that run came from Damien Shelton.

It's a good 'ooh'. 2 TD drives in the 4th including a well run 2 minute drill. Yes I know it was against 2s and 3s with the game locked up but still. Much more inspiring than Holcomb.

Some things I noticed....

The Choice One sign is gone off one of the end zone clubs. Must be they ended their partnership deal.

I don't know what this one group of 20-somethings was doing, other than having too much of the golden soda's, but security had to come and talk to them SEVEN times! Times one and two it looked like just a warning, three through seven they take a couple of them away.

Nall should start next weekend to see how he does against 1st string players.

I noticed Reyes got turned around once but held his block with his butt.  Not easy.  <_<
