nick in* england
Whitner is driving me nuts. He may be a #1 pick, but his comments in press conferences are just so....... grrrrrrrrr. He's just kinda pi$$ing me off and not really giving me a good feeling that he's even a little humble. You got picked to play in the NFL, by the greatest team in the NFL for christs sake! Be a little grateful! [/RANT]

mary owen
http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=3996 oh yeah - and his comments on Bills Focus 745337[/snapback] this is from the link (am I missing something???): On how much getting reps with the first teams help with Matt Bowen out: Since Matt (Bowen) went down, I’ve taken every snap with the first team. It’s unfortunate that Matt went down. Matt will be back soon. He’s competitive and we’re still going to compete for the starting job. On how the reps are helping him: It’s like growth everyday – grow a little bit more everyday. The backers around me are helping me – Troy (Vincent) is helping me. On if he has been catching up on the time he missed in beginning of camp: It’s going good. Everyday that I’m here with my teammates I get in the meetings and learn something new. It’s good for me and it’s good for the team. On if he expects to be a starter: That’s what drives me, being the starter on opening day and coming out of the tunnel to play New England. I’m working hard, keep learning everything I can learn from the coaches here and the players remind me – hopefully I’m out there.
nick in* england
To be honest it was more what he said in Bills Focus... And some other stuff I've read from him. I like his attitude, to a point, and then he just kind of has this arrogant streak that cuts me up the wrong way... Maybe I was just feeling a little sensitive when I heard him - I'm trying to sell my house at the moment!

Sorry Nick, I haven't seen anything over the top from Whitner yet. The holdout sucked, but since he signed I haven't seen anything to upset me. H2o
The story itself: "On how much getting reps with the first teams help with Matt Bowen out: Since Matt (Bowen) went down, I’ve taken every snap with the first team. Do you mind telling me where you get a "He's an arrogant a#$hole" opinion out of that? I don't see it.
The Senator
Nick, his comments might "read" worse than they sound - just like when you lose voice intonation, gestures, facial expression, etc. in an email (or TSW post) and people mis-interpret you're meaning or demeanor. I was pissed at Whitner during the holdout too - but since he got to camp, he really seems like a solid, well-grounded, nice guy. (Maybe they need to put smilie faces after his comments! )

Well, that and the fact that he's French (Oliver that is). I think someone needs to dig out the Nick meets the Queen thread for old times sake. It was a golden I tell ya, golden! stevewin
This is not necessarily related - but this item was on Chris Brown's blog: WHITNER'S TONGUE LASHING: Bills defensive coordinator Perry Fewell got right up in Donte Whitner's face at practice today. After he failed to hustle downfield on a pass play to the outside, Fewell came rushing into the huddle prior to the next play and shouted. "When are you gonna run?!! You've been here for one week!! When are you gonna run!! Run to the football!!!" Sticks out more for me not as a bashing of Whitner - but how much I'm liking Fewell. At practice he was getting on guys to hustle and always coaching - not just being a blowhard and yelling to hear himself yell - but rather really trying to get the defense to play with intensity and play hard through the end of the play. Marv's Neighbor
Maybe he doesn't "fancy" humility right now! Give him a couple of real games where he makes some rookie mistakes and gets burned and he will likely come around.

ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN
I read the comments on the link and have no idea why you think those are cocky and over-the-top. They seem completly fine and humble and all that stuff. I like the guys confidance and swagger. When we play Chad Johnson and those types, I want a field general who dominates and gives the D an identity. For a decade the defense has been vanilla with little emotion or passion. This kid is the frist step to giving us some bite.
