C.Biscuit97
I must admit that I was very unsure of having Mike Gandy as our starting left tackle. However, some research showed some interesting results: Elite Left Tackles in the NFL Year Team G GS Pen Yds False Start Holding Sacks Allwd Yds John Ogden (http://realfootball365.stats.com/fb/...d=3540&team=33) 2005 Bal 16 16 7 35 6 0 9.25 66.00 Orlando Pace (http://realfootball365.stats.com/fb/...d=3951&team=14) 2005 StL 16 16 8 40 8 0 6.00 44.00 Willie Roaf (10 games - http://realfootball365.stats.com/fb/...d=2586&team=12) 2005 KC 10 10 5 38 2 3 4.00 25.00 Levi Jones (http://realfootball365.stats.com/fb/...id=5896&team=4) 2005 Cin 15 15 6 41 4 2 5.00 22.00 Walter Jones (http://realfootball365.stats.com/fb/...d=3949&team=26) 2005 Sea 15 15 3 20 2 1 2.50 14.00 Mike Gandy (http://realfootball365.stats.com/fb/playerstats.asp?id=5515&team=2) 2005 Buf 16 16 7 54 2 5 7.00 46.00 I'm not sure of the credibly of this site, but it definitely is very interesting. It is also worth noting that none of these guys played with a guard worse than Bennie Anderson. In fact in many cases, these guys played with elite/ Pro Bowl level left guards. Additionally, most of the LTs had experienced QBs under center that made quick decisions. Hopefully, Reyes will be an upgrade & JP/ KH improve their play, and perhaps the Bills may have the foundation of a very solid offensive line for years to come. Please discuss. P. S. I apologize in advance for the positive post.

According to that same site.... Gandy 7 sacks allowed as you said Bennie 6 sacks MW 5 sacks Peters 1.5 sacks TT 0.5 sacks CV 3 sacks Duke 2 sacks Jerman 2 sacks Total 27 sacks allowed. Not only are their stats 16 sacks short(43 sacks allowed in 2005) but it shows Gandy to be the biggest offender on the team. I am not saying he is no good.....just that I don't think those stats are reliable. Personally I'm optimistically listening to the majority of experts who are saying he is a solid LT. Buffalo_Stampede
They are not reliable. I cant remember more than 2 sacks that Gandy gave up. I cant even remember hearing his name during games. The only stats that are reliable are the grades McNally gave the lineman. Since this team didnt even look at a LT and paid jason Peters some nice $ but kept him on the right, just shows what McNally thinks of Gandy. That said, if they loved Gandy, they would have extended him also. Maybe his injury past scares them off. I wouldnt be surprised if gandy plays like he did last year and its past midseason, they might start talks with him.
Bills#23Iowa
Forget what he did last year, or in the past. We just need to see how he performs this year. The whole offense sucked, so why are we just worried about LT, and Gandy?
stuckincincy
I must admit that I was very unsure of having Mike Gandy as our starting left tackle. However, some research showed some interesting results: 738791[/snapback] Thanks for the research! It's difficult to assign numbers to sacks - some qbs are very decisive or mobile, some like RJ hangs on to the ball forever, some like former decent NYJ qb Ken O'Brien who hated sacks and sometimes put the ball up for grabs. I use the seat-of-the pants approach: As a game progresses and I don't notice a particular OL's pass protection, he's doing good. If I find myself thinking "sheesh" , he's doing bad. One thing that really stands out to me, is a lineman that escorts a RB, pancakes a defender, rings sombody's bell on a trap, or is in the camera shot downfield murdering some little DB. In any event, our OL on paper at least should perform better, and I am hoping that decent playcalling will mask deficiencies.

Pace (Bulger, Fitzpatrick, Martin) had 6.00 combined sacks and holds. Roaf (Green) had 7.00 combined sacks and holds. Jones (Palmer) had 7.00 combined sacks and holds. W. Jone (Hass) had 3.50 combined sacks and holds. Gandy (Holcomb, Losman) had 12.00 combined sacks and holds. OK now, so the argument is that Gandy is as good as the others then? krazykat
Ogden and Roaf are also in their 30s. Gandy's smack in the middle of his prime.
Ray
Gandy is a good LT. He is not great, but maybe having a good LT you pay reasonable cap money to is better than an overrated but slightly better guy who takes up 10% of your cap space.
5 Wide
Tutan Reyes will help the guy out this year as well.

I wouldnt be surprised if gandy plays like he did last year and its past midseason, they might start talks with him. Just because he haven't heard about it doesn't mean they're not working on an extension with Gandy. The problem is, and this is the reason I think he'll be gone next year, is he now sees himself as a non-sucky LT, and knowing what LT's make, will want LT money even though he'd probably be better served at RT and at least OG. I doubt the Bills are offering much and if he wants too much to re-sign, he'll be gone.
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN
What you stats dont show is how many time a LT failed to pull out of his stance and knock a guy off the ball at the point of attack. GAndy's name should never be associated with those who pancake guys all game long. The sacks, dont show the blocking, clearly.
