apuszczalowski Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 but this club stinks and the talent is sorry as hell. 739279 Good, then go find a team that isn't and cheer for them, some people here are willing to look ahead with this team and give them a chance to prove it on the field on game day rather then determining they have no talent and will be horrible just because in they aren't a bunch of pro Bowlers signing in Buffalo this offseason. The team Marv is putting together right now will be hard working and will play as a team. Does that mean instant success? maybe not, but it could mean they could still be a very good team this year.
tennesseeboy Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I think we MIGHT have a lot of talent (Evans, McGahee, Whitner, maybe McCargo and Whitner, Parrish, and conceivably even JP.) McKee, Spikes, Fletcher and Clements are definitely talented. On the other hand...if one weren't the Bills fan I am, I could see the argument that it isn't proven. On paper we look pretty bad, and it is up to the Bills to actually go out and show that we aren't very bad and might even be an interesting football team. I'm betting that is what will happen, and we'll be in for some pleasant surprises this year. However...until the bills get a chance to get out and show some stuff in the first few games, we aren't in much of a position to disagree with the naysayers. I'll just wait and gloat when we surpass expectations when the season starts.
AJ1 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 ------------------------- but this club stinks and the talent is sorry as hell. 739279 No, what can be demostrated by your posts is that some 'fans' are as sorry as hell.
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 Good, then go find a team that isn't and cheer for them, some people here are ================== totally agree with ya. I think marv is moving in the right direction. He has underclassmen who were value picks this season and in 3 yrs will develop nicely. He will also find late rounder depth ala Polian/ Butler/ Ferguson/ D. Adams/ AJ Smith used to do, b/k he knows talent at the end of the day. My post simply questions why this talent is so bad and reviews it versus the worst in the league. A lot of people on this board sound off at the drop of hat b/k they feel rather secure that their "virtual friends" will back them "on line" with satirical / sarcastic/ barbs. but the sober reality is that Miami and NE are better teams on paper and in theory. The bills are building, but 10 years with real wins and no real diection and no players to anchor the club is pathetic. as a fan, i will play devils advocate here and challenge the guys on this board with 20,000 posts who come on here and preach "bills -- i love them --- bills i love" mantras with out ever wanting to win anything. Give me a team that has some direction. that is what i ask from wilson. I refuse to bow to him adn thank him for giving us simple buffalo blue colors types a team. screw that, i want a team that wins. the talent blows. Can marv turn it around? is wilson responsible? you want to see us get crushed and teams like maimi move ahead of us year aft. yr? THink outside the box. challenge your mind.

marck Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I have read through the multitude of posts back and forth and find that as much as you say you are unbiased, in actuality you are simply looking for attention. To bad your mom of depriving you of the attention any child wants and you have no outlet to use to get the attention you grave. Sadly, I am only providing you what you truly desire but at least I did get to the root cause. Let me make a guess of who you are. Ages 14-16, friendless nerd who is on this website because porn is blocked my mommy on your home computer. Go do something productive such as review various publications regarding teams and unit by unit talent and make a legitimate assessment before you waste mine and other peoples valuable time with meaningless quotes. I think a more objective look would be to grade each team at it's specific positions: Team:------SF------Hou-----Ten-----Cle-----N.O.-----Oak-----Det-----Buf Position: QB:-----------D--------C-------B--------D-------A--------D-------B--------D RB:-----------C--------B-------B--------B-------A---------B-------B--------B WR:----------C---------A-------C--------C------B---------A-------B--------C OL:-----------D---------D-------C--------C------D---------C------C--------C DL:-----------D---------C-------C--------B------B---------D------B--------C LB:-----------B---------C--------B--------B------D--------C------C--------A CB:----------D---------C--------B--------C------B--------D-------C-------A S:------------D---------D--------D-------C------C---------D------C--------C ----------------------- Agreed, this chart would be great to calculate the overall skill level of the club versus other team's. THe question is upon what criteria one ranks a player. NExt, one has to be unbias with these scores, which will be impossilbe with the xenophobic and home town cooking fans on the site here. But I would say that hte Bills would rank in the bottom 5 team in overall league talent -- assuming one had the criteria which reasonably addressed each position. 738931

Why is it that everyone who comes on here to take a huge dump in the TSW punch bowl with a load of pre-emptive negativity then wants to claim that he is thinking "outside the box"? Roscoe, as a fellow Bills fan, I know you have to have some good in you, but you have to see that there is a wide difference between relentless negativism and "rose colored glasses." I have no illusions about the weaknesses of this team, but I happen to choose to wait until the games are played before announcing to one and all that they suck. Futhermore, if they do lose games, I will remember that this is after all a game, and will not seek to salve my wounded self-image by running onto TSW and beating my chest about how I was the only one with the clarity to see the inevitability of their suckiness. I would never begrudge anyone their right to be as gloomy as they like, but I can't stand it when the gloomy want to claim to have the market cornered on either intelligence or virtue.
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 Lets use your ulcerous little dribble as a sag way to reviewing what this team needs talent wise (lets play scout, if you will): THe entire OFFENSIVE line is void of any leadership of guidance or building block. Mike WIlliams was supposed to be the guy we ruished over on 3rd adn 4th adn short. NOw we are back to guessing and Jerry Crafts/ Hicks type blocking. Royal is an upgrade to block -- but todays NFL needs a stick moving pass cather. Everett was another underclassman -- who will take another season and his knee injury set him back even furhter. RB -- I''m not sold on WIllis. He has 3 yrs to show something. Has he shred the 2nd layer ever? He punishes piles each paly. Is is the line? GREAT BACKS STAND out. Look at LTomlinson a few season back. His club sucks yet he stood out. Great players stand out. simple as that... DL has a 3rd round OSU wrestler anchoring it. Triplett is a warm body. Shoebel has shown signs of being good. Denney and Kelsey have little direction and dont stand out. Spikes is injured. I dont count him as he is not playing. Will he ever return to form? was he GREAT anyway? I would say he was energenic. But so was Mark Pike!?!?!? Fletcher has the 2nd most tackel of any IMLB in the league the past 5 seasons = Sam Mills PART II. Cowell shows signs. But so did GAbe NOrthern and Bryce Fisher. Crowell played a ta good UVA program and has speed, but it will be interesting to see him as a starter and not a sub. The game changes when the pressure is on. SO many bills players = see Keith Newman/ Carlton Bailey. Clements and MCGee look solid. And I like the nickle and dime packages and the Whitner. Vincent is a damn joke for the money we pay him. Ko simpson may be a steal. JP needs protection and a system that helps him. GUy has all the skilss. BUt his pock awarness may not be where it has to be. THe QBS that are great feel the pressure and have savvy footwork to buy a few that 1 or 2 second to unload a ball. Every high valued passer eludes (manning, culpepper, palmer). Even Jimbo Kelly moved a little and knew when to and not to. THE WRs look okay. Evans was a 5yr college kid who has great hands. Can he beat th e double team this season moulds say for years? Price rusn straight lines and posts, that is it. Reed is a running back in a WR slot. PArrish could be a star. He has more potential than any of them, IMHO. ANdre davis is a cut along with aiken.

Swift Sylvan Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 You're giving your honest opinion I will give you that, and I do like ratings table posted earlier too, but all of this is subjective, regardless of how objective we want to be. We won't really know where our talent level is until we start playing other teams. Furthermore there's a difference between talent (a word very similar to potential) or the utilization of talent. If the Bills go 8-8 these grades will have been too low. If they go 4-12 these grades will have been too high. But, and no one really wants to hear this, we can't fully know until it happens.
Alaska Darin Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 <sigh> Please, somebody, give me a reason to believe that this post is worthy of legitimate discussion on this board. We suck. No talent. Season over. Thank you and good night. 739277 I already canceled my Sunday Ticket. For the next decade.
Swift Sylvan Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I already canceled my Sunday Ticket. For the next decade. 739452 Agreed, I think all our talent went down the drain when we didn't resign....um....Jonas Jennings. By the way I love these smilies which probably isn't to wonderful for the rest of you, but hey, they make me happy
ROSCOE P. COE TRAIN Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Agreed, the-on-the-field performance will speak volumes about where we are. BUt how different is this team from last season? That is what I am saying. The line is patchwork with a TE project Peters as its bell cow. We know that GAndy aint going to pancake anyone. The TE is upgraded on blocking, but Everett is in lala land and Royal is a blocker ONLY (seen him play in Dist. of Colum. for months). Evans is a great player, but he is now double teamed. Moulds protected Evans from the Safety help. Price rusn straight lines. He was laughed out of Atlanta where he stole millions. Parrish is a nice little gem. But WR take 3 seasons. Can he really make an impact? Can he get the ball? Willis is a fien back. He is known as a power back who runs between the tackles, and comes out on 3rd downs. He supposed to catch balls this season and run Fairchild's sweeps and get involved in screens. Can he make get into the 2nd layer of the defense and "take it to the house?" In 3 seasons he has shown little in that department. His top end speed is no where near the best in the game. NOT EVEN close. JP is JP. He is guy learning the game. There will be mistakes. Big Ben was special b/k of his size, his footwork in the pocket (nimble as hell in pocket and he has the finest OL in the game). JP has suspect footwork adn pocket awareness (IMO) and a bruttal line. Hey could be jsut fine. But I dont see him winning 10 games. On defense, the squad is the same with a new Coordinator. Perry instructs the cover 2 bend but dont break defense. Keep everything in front of ya style. Whitner will be in the point-of-attach-box ala Lynch and Mike Dose. Takes good cover corners and LB tackling and a pass rusher (Simeon RIce (Tampa) ; Dwight Freeney (Colts)). Denney and Kelsey may not be everydown players. They were 2nd rounders. We have two 2nd rounders right there who are situational. I love McCargo. But he is a senior in college. He is a baby. The division is good. Miami is making all the right moves and Saban, as I said last year at this time, is a GREAT COACH. NE is still a powerhouse and they are healthy again. The Jets are bruttal. Agreed, it is all conjecture. I see a good division with us having limited manpower. We are "all hat and no cattle" (i.e., we got great coaches with little in the way of players) -- like we were last season. Marv will add fiber and fabric to the club. Another 3 seasons....

DCBongo Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Well this is the beauty of training camp - on paper is anyone going to use the words Buffalo Bills and playoffs in the same sentence. Well, maybe if they are also using, not going to make. But the problem with your post RPCT is you are being downright negative before they play their first pre-season game, which we all know means squat. The Bills have a few stars, a few solid players and a lot of question marks, which will not even start to be answered until 9/10. You can play Nostradamus all you like, but save the sucks post until after game 4.
