Pete Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Austin TX "parties" pretty hard too...it is just too fuggin' hot during the summer to want to do most of the stuff....the heat here is opressive...I am hallucinating! 734218 I have to make it down there. I hear great things about Austin- how do you like living down there?
Fezmid Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Minneapolis/St. Paul is a big party-town as well. We just had "Rib Fest" where there were a lot of free concerts (Ted Nugent and Kansas were two of the bigger names) - http://www.ribamerica.com/St_Paul_Entertainment Then there's the Taste of Minnesota: http://www.tasteofmn.org/june30th.html Minnesota State fair: http://www.mnstatefair.org/pages/grandstand.html http://www.mnstatefair.org/pages/free_stage.html The Basilica Block Party: http://www.basilicablockparty.org/ Aquatennial: http://www.aquatennial.org/ US Pond Hockey tournament (ok, no concerts, but hey): http://www.uspondhockey.com/page/pond_ticker.jsp So no, Buffalo isn't unique in it's "some party to attend every weekend" mentality. It's cool, but hardly unique. CW
stuckincincy Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Didn't the Mayor there get upset because the locals refer to the heterosexuals as breeders? 733574 Yep...read an article in my local n'paper last week. Story told to me by a friend - a less than totally law-abiding fellow, but disarming, an unsophisticated sort blessed with a very rich wife. His musings on life are interesting. He said they visited on vacation, and he asked a waiter if they had fresh fruit. The waiter replied, "Sir, we are dripping with fresh fruit here!".
Kelly the Dog Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 You've made my point. Good time? Or a great time? Sure, you'll find a good time in Buffalo, all the time ? No! Which means not a great time all the time. The folks that think Buffalo, or the surrounding area is the best, have not traveled anywhere. Small thinking. That's not a shot, just reality......... 734158 The question wasn't the best party, the question was who parties harder. I have never seen a town that on average parties harder. Later, stronger, more, more percentage of drinkers and drunks. There are a lot of better party cities. There aren't a lot of cities that party harder collectively, IMO. Almost everyone you meet in any city in the states knows someone from Buffalo. If you ask them if that man or woman is a maniac and big partier, they will almost always say yes. Or scream, "they're insane!" I have been asking that question to hundreds of people in cities all over the country and it's almost always the same. They say the people from Buffalo are very cool and crazy partiers. I have never been in a city where women drink shots of liquor like they do in Buffalo.
Ned Flanders Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Can you imagine what this summer party season would have been if the Sabres won the Cup?

Try partying with a Norwegian sometime.

A higher level of self-serving drunkedness, drug usage, or cruelty to those around one? Or enraptured amity with good will towards all?
tennesseeboy Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I used to run in 5, 10 and 15k's. Buffalo was always a kick, because they had great beer parties after almost every race and I got a charge out of seeing people finish a race and actually smoke cigarettes! Rochester was very yuppy. Finish the race have a banana, yogurt bottle of water, get in the Volvo and BMW and get on with your day. Now UTICA....the Boilermaker was a helluva race (close to my favorite..15k) and the party out of this world. Great for St. Pat's as well. y son played a high school state championship hockey game there on St. Pat's (lost to Massena...monster hockey players up there.) and we all had a great St. Pat's there.

Or enraptured amity with good will towards all? 734471 Anyone who knows much about alcohol and drug usage knows that quantity and quality of the liquor or drugs has much less to do with its abuse than the individual's reaction to it. A guy whose personality changes from a basically good dude to a belligerent ****, or a self-serving cruel drunk after one or two beers is a bigger alcoholic than a guy who drinks ten beers and is the same basic guy. There are millions of both kinds. I am not advocating partying hard, just observing it. What does it say that virtually everyone agrees that Buffalonians are very friendly good people and Buffalonians party hard?

I have friends from college who grew up and live in Long Island/NYC, LA, and elsewhere. They have come to visit (some several times) and they LOVE Buffalo. I think what makes Buffalo is the fact that the girls all seem to party pretty hard, at least as the going out and drinking goes. And in the summer, they are dressed all scandalous because they only have 3 months to wear all of their skimpy hootchie gear. You can find any city in the world where the dudes go out heavy and get mashed, but the ladies can throw them back in the B-Lo. Several of my friends from out of town have had to tap out after two straight nights of raging in Buffalo...They said they couldn't handle a third...That's when you mention that the nudies and casinos in Niagara Falls, ON are only 20 minutes away, and suddenly they are feeling lively again!!!
Fezmid Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 The question wasn't the best party, the question was who parties harder. That's what the subject says, but the meat of the original post was basically saying "Buffalo always has things to do - look at the free concerts!"
pdh1 Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I was home last weekend for a HS reunion. Buddy Guy was playing a free concert at the Erie Basin Marina. St.Barnabas had it lawn fete with two beer tents, one with a rock band, the other with polka. The Bisons had fireworks after their game friday. Sidewalk cafe's were jam packed from Chippawa to Allenstown. I looked in the Artvoice and saw the schedule of FREE concerts on the square and on the canal. These are the same performers you have to pay $30 or more to see in concert anywhere elese, and they are playing for free in Buffalo. It just struck me that Buffalo in the summer is awesome. PTR 733537 Buckhead in Atlanta. MUCH hotter chicks. An Lots of Them! Just stay away from the Underground if you want to keep your wallet.
Fezmid Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Just stay away from the Underground if you want to keep your wallet. 734544 Why do you say that? I was in Atlanta on business and my manager and I went to the Underground. Was cool to see, but we didn't stay long. It was just a glorified mall, and Minnesota already has the best mall in the world if you're into that sort of thing (which I'm not).
Buftex Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I have to make it down there. I hear great things about Austin- how do you like living down there? 734230 I love it, for the most part....except the heat from July-to mid October, and then days here and there through the end of November...every bit as brutal as people claim the Buffalo winters to be...great place to live, overall...celebrating my 15th anniversary here, in Septemeber!

That's not a shot, just reality......... 734158 Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder....I've done south beach on spring break, Vegas, New Orleans...they all have their qualities that separate them apart. Each has something that makes it great that the others don't. I gotta admit though I do love Buffalo in the Summer. Oh and from my road trip during the eastern conference finals......if you ask the good folks (subjective) of North Carolina who has the fans that party the hardest I think you'll have a consensus....
Fezmid Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Do you work for the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce? 734660 No, I just like doing things in the city. CW
Fewell733 Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Buffalo is great in the summer and I have lived elsewhere. We really benefit from the temperatures not getting quite as hot and a population that enjoys having a few beers and greasy food in a public setting. Today the Violent Femmes are playing for free downtown. Downtown and Chippewa will be packed and there will be much merriment for all.
Chef Jim Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 having a few beers and greasy food in a public setting. 734687 Damn, you all are right, those Buffalonians really do know how to party.
