Costly for an Evangelical Pastor.  Nice article.

Very good article.

And that pastor is 100% right. I don't understand why the religious right has this idea that if they make everyone act the way they want them to, its a good thing.

It pushes people away from Christianity, not towards it. IIRC from my readings of the Bible back when I was in MS/HS, Jesus didn't force anyone to act the way he wanted them to, and its everyone's choice how to act and whether to accept him.

He makes a lot of points that hit right to the heart of things. Which is probably why some people took offense; it often hurts to be forced to re-examine your core beliefs on the premise they might be wrong --- easier to put your nose toward the sky and shop among the churches.

I, for one, am concerned with the level churches participate in bald-face politics and actually telling the congregation how they should vote. (Drove by my former church (the new pastor was one who sends wandering, redundancy-ridden 8-page letters to parishoners re: satan, co-habitation, abortion, whatever the issue of the day is in an attempt to be relevant) the other day and they'd actually added "Conservative" to the big sign.) Whatever the stripe, organizations that wade chest-deep in politics should not be tax-exempt.
