Johnny Coli Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 My favorite letter has always been "n" because of that haunting Sesame Street song: Lower-case "n" lyrics In a cold and far-off place There was a lower-case N. Lonely and cold, she would stare off into space And it was known that she would cry now and then. There's a couple more stanza's where an alien "n" lands on the hill. The two n's become an "m" when they merge. The wind is very stillFor the lower-case eh-ens! Like I said, haunting. That's the kind of thing that will stay with you for a lifetime.
Dan Gross Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 It's a JOKE, for Christ's sake. I can't believe the way this is being reported. The Dan did a similar thing years ago with the R&R Hall of Fame. The entire thing is a tongue-in-cheek spoof. 730078 Owen Wilson has responded. [hot pocket] In a statement released by his spokeswoman, Ina Treciokas, Wilson said: "I have never heard the song 'Cousin Dupree' and I don't even know who this gentleman, Mr. Steely Dan, is. I hope this helps to clear things up and I can get back to concentrating on my new movie, 'HEY 19.' " [/hot pocket]

In an article I read earlier today about this, it noted that Wilson had never heard the song. Didn't mention the "Mr. Steely Dan" or the "Hey 19" movie. That this is an obvious inside joke has been lost on much of the mainstream news media.

I figured the guys were joking, it just seems like a hokey publicity stunt and they're trying to sound cool.

I figured the guys were joking, it just seems like a hokey publicity stunt and they're trying to sound cool. 731220 I hate to keep kicking this horse as it should be quite dead by now...but: It was a joke letter written on their website on fake hotel stationery. Likely it was a response to being questioned about the movie because of the name. It was clearly meant for their hard core fans and, well...themselves. If you know ANYTHING about the Dan, it was not a publicity stunt. I'm sure they are as shocked as anyone about the publicity it has attracted. It's certainly possible someone "inside" used it for publicity....but I doubt...no I'm SURE, Fagen and Becker didn't. And they are the very defiinition of cool. They really don't care...they just do what they do. Their albums and tours get VERY little support from the label as they refuse to so the normal publicity stuff. One funny, tangentially-related thing...In the big book that accompanies Citizen Steely Dan (their 4-disc compilation) they include several bad (actually scathing) reviews of their work.
