His history proves this, and I don't think he will ever stop. Do you? Seriously.

John, your optimism is ever appreciated.

The thing is, bargain basement blockers have not worked for the Bills. We keep bringing them in, and they range from average, to flat out sucking.

CV is one of the top 10 highest paid OGs in football, and even HE sucks. He might not even make the team.

The Bills need to address the OL via the draft, and/or big time free agents (if you can find one). Until they do, we will continue to see a parade of losers and losses.  If history has taught us anything as Bills Fans, we know that we cannot win with castoffs and misfits up front.

Btw, I too have hope for Fowler.

keep those fingers crossed.

Kent Hull was a misfit and castoff when he joined the Bills.

obie_wan, you should know that the ONLY offensive line that will quell Bill's angst is one composed of high 1st round picks. Those picks NEVER fail, and it is impossible to build a competitive line without them.

And I hear Damion McIntosh has a good shot of starting over LJ Shelton with the Dolphins. ;)

Take these for what they're worth; I met someone at a party whose father has "ties" to Mouse McNally, so these comments are from his perspective:

-- Last year was McNally's least enjoyable since he started coaching; there was a tense, uncomfortable feeling from the top down.

Not a surprise at all. The team was in turmoil and Mularkey was a mess.

-- Team had little confidence in JP; seemed to be "lost" at the LOS.

I'm always shocked when a rookie QB struggles and the "leaders" around him react negatively. I'm pretty glad some of the losers are gone (especially the "coaching" staff).

-- Strongly believes Peters is the real deal and could become a perennial All-Pro.

Thanks for the info, man.

That was the extent of our conversation; no more details beyond what I've indicated above.

#1 is really no surprise to me; I think we as fans could sense that as well.  #2 is certainly a concern, because you can go two ways with it:  either JP doesn't have it "mentally," or he simply played like a rookie and needs more playing time.  I haven't heard or seen anything from JP that would lead me to believe he's a dummy, so (surprise) I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt until we see what happens this summer.

#3 is really great news.  Kudos to Marv for getting Peters locked up.

i heard something similar from another source. the differences: he wasn't so negative on JP. also, he went out of his way to say that gandy was a better than average LT, and wondered loudly what games gandy's critics were actually watching last year.

I also seem to remember a "bargain basement blocker" by the name of John Davis.

We could have had Leinart

My hand is raised to the ceiling. He's a weak armed Paris dater and I don't care much for him. Anyone that would date that c$m dumpster piece of trash does not belong on Marv's Bills.

Not knowing the Vikes salary cap situation, my guess is that it would have been very hard for them to sign Fowler. They are paying a probowl OC, along with a LT who was selected at #7, not to mention a 52 million dollar LG.

It is said that he did a good job last year, and at least some of his games were played in the cold, or so one would think. I look forward to seeing what he can do, and expect him to be an instant upgrade at OC.

I also wonder why Gandy gets the bad rap.....

The TOP left tackles in the NFL get beat from time to time......Ogden, Boselli, Pace.....every one of those guys have had bad days.....and they tie up TONS of salary cap on thier teams.....

Gandy has a bad day and he is garbage...the fact is he also had some very good days. Now....next year I would like to see him and Peters change spots....but I think that Gandy has done a pretty good job.

Our tackles are not our problem....it is the inability to create any space up the middle......

He would get a bad rap last season because folks expected little out of him because his rep was not that of a successful LT and because the Bills struggled so much with their OL play.

Given that they were bad in OL performance, it would simply make fiootball sense that part of this outcome should have been the inadequate or bad play of the this "not ready for LT" level player at a position the conventional wisdom says is the most important position on the OL.

Yet, his play simply did not fit the expected script accepted by many fan football experts. Given that there were tons of real reasons for the poor OL play (from poor player performance like Anderson and MW to poor scheme and application of scheme by the Bills and Clements) most of the "experts" simply try to ignore Gandy's performance. It simply does not fit the script or was too nuanced to explain in the short form experts use so in general it is ignored or folks make general comments about the need to upgrade at LT without acknowledging thaty this upgrade can occur if Gandy shows the same productivity (or better gosh forbid which ain't supposed to happen) at LT this year.

I'm looking forward to how Gandy will do this year. There are lots of reasons to hope that he has finally gotten it, and that the Bills actually have a tremendously cost effective answer at LT.

If he and offensive partner Reyes have good chemistry on the left side and Gandy is a year better at LT, these two have the potential to put together a great performance. There are also real reasons why this may not happen (Gandy returns to his normal level of play which is not suited to performance on an island as many LTs deal with or Reyes has issues adjusting to flipping to LG from RG.

However, these two outcomes are so widely different and either occurs it will be fairly obvious to even the casual observer, but either is quite possible that the "legends in their own minds" of fan expertise on OL play simply are being pretty quiet with their dulcet predictions of which way its gonna play out.
