millbank
Doug Flutie Former CFL star Doug Flutie was poised to return to the Toronto Argonauts last week before having a change of heart. A league source requesting anonymity told Canadian Press Saturday night that Flutie, six times the CFL's outstanding player, had a plane ticket for Toronto and was scheduled to practise with the Argos last Sunday before talks between himself and the Argos broke down. The source added that Doug Flutie had reservations about being able to withstand the punishment as a player despite being 43 years old. He spent a total of 21 seasons in professional football with the USFL, NFL and CFL. Flutie's near-return to the Argos, who he led to consecutive Grey Cups in 1996 and '97 before signing with the NFL's Buffalo Bills, was the featured item on CBC's pre-game show Saturday night. But talk of Flutie's potential return to Toronto is certainly likely to heat up once again with the devastating injury to Argos starter Spergon Wynn in Saturday's game versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
