Arkady Renko Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 On Monday night, I was about 2 hours into the movie when a personal emergency arose and I had to leave the theater. I guess there was about a half hour left. I was wondering if someone who has seen the movie could just lay out how the rest went (when I left Lex Luther's continent started to form). I am sure that Superman prevails, but I'd appreciate just how it all happened. I am curious and don't want to plunk down more money to see the so-so movie again. Thanks.

Thanks. 719323 OK - Here goes. Lois is about to be attacked by Brutus when her son hurls a Piano at him and kills him. (More on that later) Lois and her son are stranded on the ship. Her fiancee flys his plane and lands in the water to save her. The ship is then lifted by one of the continents and starts to break. The ship starts to sink with Lois, Fiancee, and son in it. Superman saves them, puts them on the plane and it flys back. (Lois is out cold) Superman heads back to find Lex, not knowing that the island he is on is made of Kryptonite Lois awakens and says that they have to turn around or SM will die. Lex and his goons beat the crap out of SM, then Lex stabs him with Kryptonie in the back and throws him in the water. They land the plane and Lois' son senses where SM is and they land. Lois jumps in and saves him. She then removes the kryptonite from his back on the plane. Superman goes back and shoots to the bottom of the earth, lifts up the continent and throws it into space. In the process the Kryptonite makes him weak and he crashes into earth and lands in Central Park SM is taken to the hospital where Lois visits him (when unconcious) and tells him that he is her sons father He recovers and flys to Lois' house and then flies around some more.

I do have one question. Is this it? He just flies around. He doesn't do Lois? I assume Clark's identity does not come up in the end?
EZC-Boston Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I don't think he should have been able to lift a kryptonite covered continent into outer space...
Johnny Coli Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 (edited) On Monday night, I was about 2 hours into the movie when a personal emergency arose and I had to leave the theater. Thanks. 719323 Saw it monday. Hated it, but that's for another thread. SPOILER ALERT: You saw about 3/5ths of this flick, so to wrap it up... The kid is Superman's son, and kills one of Lex's henchmen with a piano when Lois is threatened (assuming you know she snuck onto Luthor's yacht, with her kid in tow). Oddly, the movie never really explores this plot tidbit, which you think would be pretty freaking relevent and a nice plot device. The kid threw a piano. I'd say that was a pretty neat plot twist, wouldn't you? The crytal that was tossed into the ocean by Luthor starts growing a new continent, partially composed of (surprise! ) kryptonite. [Major plot hole to follow] Meanwhile on the yacht...Lois' hubby shows up just in the nick of time to get trapped on the capsizing (sic?) yacht, because the growing continent runs it through and cuts it in half. They almost crawl to saftey, but a wave knocks a cabin door into Lois' head, knocking them back into the flooding cabin locking them in to drown in the cold dark sea. But wait! The kid has super powers and get's Lois and his non-biological dad to safety. NOT! I guess his super strength is limited to tossing pianos, or maybe they lost a page out of the script, because Superman has to show up just in time to raise the ship and pull them to safety. They fly off in Non-Biological Dad's seaplane. Superman goes to confront Luthor, but remember, the new continent is made of krytonite, So...when our hero confronts Luthor he's without powers, get's his ass kicked, get's stabbed with a piece of kryptonite, and ends up in the ocean. Lois, the kid who tosses pianos but can't open doors, and Non-Biological Dad fly back because Lois knows that the new continent is made of kryptonite. How will they find the drowning Superman? The kid! The kid uses his super powers to find the submerged Superman....NOT! They just see him, fly down, and rescue him, flying away. Ho hum. Superman regains his powers as they fly further away, because, you know, the freaking continent is made of krytonite. So, Superman goes back, kryptonite be damned. Remarkably, even though this giant CONTINENT MADE OUT OF KRYPTONITE is the size of Maryland, AND MADE OUT OF FREAKING KRYPTONITE, Superman flies under the magma, lifts it up out of the water and flies it into space. Luthor's henchmen get killed in the process, and Luthor and Parker Posey end up stranded on an island, without the other crystals because Posey dumped them out the helicopter door. They were on the continent MADE OUT OF KRYPTONITE that Superman tossed into space. They seemed kind of important, you know, the whole fortress of Solitude thing, but now they've been tossed into space. Oh well, I'm sure the writers of the sequel will straighten that out for us. Well, Superman was totally wiped out from flying the KRYPTONITE CONTINENT into space, and falls back to earth, crashing in a heap in Central Park. Ensuing hilarity with doctors trying to "save" him by air-bagging him (he doesn't need our damn Yellow-sun air, fellas) and break their needles trying to stick him (he's the freaking man of steel people). Anyway, he wakes up, and like a super pedophile sneaks into his kid's room (the kid whose only power is tossing pianos, as far as we know...can't wait for the sequel) and pats his head...creepy. He flies around with Lois a bit...end of story. EDIT: Yeah, what Acor58 said. Sorry bud. Edited July 6, 2006 by Johnny Coli
SilverNRed Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I don't think he should have been able to lift a kryptonite covered continent into outer space... 719377 I was pretty sure that the bottom part of what he was lifting was NOT part of the island and that the island only eventually grew through it as he was finally getting closer to space (hence the shards of kryptonite growing in front of him). I liked the movie. The first half was much better than the second half. They made Superman WAY too powerful though. Lifting an island??
udonkey Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 They made Superman WAY too powerful though. Lifting an island?? 719384 Are you kidding me? Isn't this the same guy that flew around and set back time by reversing the Earth's rotation?
SilverNRed Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Are you kidding me? Isn't this the same guy that flew around and set back time by reversing the Earth's rotation? 719388 Yeah, that sucked too. If he can do that, it basically removes any chance of anything ever going wrong ever because Superman can reverse time and fix everything. Can they just once make a Superman movie that makes sense from start to finish? Every Superman movie has at least one inevitable moment when you're like "What? When did he get the ability to do that?" Superman II had that weird part where he pulled the "S" logo off his chest and used it to wrap that one guy with General Zod in Saran wrap. Came completely out of nowhere.

SilverNRed Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 anyhow...Superman movie that makes sense? alien from a faraway planet that receives superpowers because of our yellow sun? need I say more? 719521 Yes, you need say more. Because everyone knows the "Superman rules" when they go see these movies. Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive. He can fly. He has heat vision and ice breath. His weakness is kryptonite. Everyone knows this, so write a damn script that actually makes sense given the world of Superman. Don't suddenly add in Superman being able to reverse time, Superman having cellophane S's to throw, and Superman being able to lift entire islands into outer space. The equivalent would be Batman suddenly having the power to actually turn into a bat towards the end of Batman Begins. Don't write a movie where you have to invent some new information about your main character in the final act to have a happy ending. That's just careless.
sweet baboo Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Actually, those Superman rules change all the time in comics depending on who the writer is. http://supermanica.info/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

That's just careless. 719526 This was a huge point of contention in the world of comics. In fact, to make Superman a little more "realistic", in 1986 they revamped the character, diminishing many of his super powers, removing all but one piece of kryptonite (there were literally thousands of pounds of the stuff laying around before, in all colors nontheless), etc. Recently, I am told that they have since removed some of the restrictions placed on his powers with a revised origin (yet again). And of course, the changing of Superman into friggin Firestorm the Electroman in the late 1990s...
shrader Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 What I want to know is how did Cyclops actually think that the kid was his? Did Lois run to him the very second Superman left? Do Kryptonian babies take longer to develop in the womb? Does Superman have super sperm that swim around for close to a year? As for the kid and his powers, he's young and hasn't fully developed them yet. The piano push was one of those "mom's in danger, must save her" instinct moments. Yeah, the sinking boat is a similar situation, but remember that there's krytonite all around him.
