Arkady Renko Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Carjackings and escaping children aside, is it safer to drive with your doors locked or unlocked? As I was driving back home this week, I was curious. This is my worthless contribution to the board today.
EZC-Boston Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Unlocked but just to save time when I get out of the car
Arkady Renko Posted July 6, 2006 Author Posted July 6, 2006 i think mine lock when I drive.... 719333 Yeah, my car does that too. I am not sure if it's for security, safety or both.
IDBillzFan Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I always drive with my car locked, but then again I have an ejector seat that opens the roof and launches the entire driver's seat clear of any trouble as a parachute stabilizes my re-entry. It's all quite complicated. Really. The monkey designed it right after he figured out how to fix NASA.
inkman Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 i think mine lock when I drive.... 719333 My parents had a car that did that and it pinched my damn arm every time!
Chef Jim Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 My parents had a car that did that and it pinched my damn arm every time! 719365 So that's how it all started.
Oneonta Buffalo Fan Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 My car locks automatically a few seconds after all the doors are shut. (after you start the car)
inkman Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 So that's how it all started. 719370 Considering I was 24 at the time (lost my license, past discretions already discussed in this forum), I would say it started a long time before that. Then again, maybe I'm just regressing...
Albany,n.y. Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Safety courses teach to lock them. I drive with the car door unlocked because it's a habit I developed early since one of my early cars would not open until you pulled up the knob to unlock it. My current car opens as if it was unlocked when locked, but I still keep it opened unless I'm driving in a seedy area.
Corp000085 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 my car locks automatically after the car reaches 8mph the first time after it is started or the door is open and shut. Considering that the doors can be opened from the inside while the door is locked, it doesn't make a difference to me. As for emergency personnel entering my car after an accident, well, if its going to come down to that, i won't mind if the window gets broken to save me.
KD in CA Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 My doors are welded shut, I slid in through the window. It quicker that way when I'm running from the law. YEEEEE-HAAAWWWW!!!!!
cåblelady Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Unlocked. I learned in Driver's Ed to "always leave yourself an out".
Guffalo Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Doors are a luxury I couldn't afford, but if I do ever spring for them, I will lock them (assuming I can afford locks)
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I lock the doors so I don't get ejected in an accident. I also lock the steering wheel so I don't go careening out of control. But I leave the hood and trunk wide open, so that if I have to do any emergency maintenance I can get to it that much more quickly.
richjk21 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Locked .... Can't remember where I read it but it was something to the effect that the door is 40% stronger if locked than unlocked.
BUFFALOTONE Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 wow this has to be one of the worst topics ever. I am not switching to womens golf.
