The League wants The Dome as a SuperBowl venue so the millionaires can have their Bourbon Street bash once every 5-6 years. The League will survive quite nicely thank you if there isn't a team in NO - the 43rd largest TV market in the country. LA is not a big (Pro) football town. They could move vaunted The Green Bay Packers there and the team would be looking to move to Salt Lake inside 5 years and they propose to move one of the League's weak sister franchises there and expect success? There's badder fish to fry right now. On the contrary to your second point, wouldn't it be wiser to indeed move one of the 'weaker' franchises rather than uproot a team with more established, loyal fans? The Saints are damn near a perfect fit for LA --- they don't even need to change the name to fit e.g. The Saints in the 'City of Angels'? If the Saints agreement is breached, they might end up in Oklahoma City the way the Hornets did. Did you see how the Oklahoma people took to the basketball team? They were a packed house every night. They would be the same way with a football team. If that is how it plays out, which I think is a huge possibility, then L.A. would still be looking for a team. What they want is a stadium with 500 luxury boxes at 100K-150K a pop and enough general seating to fit 40,000 fans. Can Oklahoma City Pony up for that? He would still be in a larger television market (37 vs. 43). Along with the sale of luxury boxes--which owners covet--there is also the matter of increasing the television universe, another primary reason small market owners seek larger territories. Local broadcasting rights are not included in the revenue sharing formula. You get to make more money selling these rights in New York than in Idaho.
