Nanker Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 The NFL has a vested interest in keeping The Superdome open and not necessarily having an NFL franchise resident in the city. The League wants The Dome as a SuperBowl venue so the millionaires can have their Bourbon Street bash once every 5-6 years. The League will survive quite nicely thank you if there isn't a team in NO - the 43rd largest TV market in the country. LA is not a big (Pro) football town. They could move vaunted The Green Bay Packers there and the team would be looking to move to Salt Lake inside 5 years and they propose to move one of the League's weak sister franchises there and expect success?

Sports on Sundays is outlawed here.

There's badder fish to fry right now. On the contrary to your second point, wouldn't it be wiser to indeed move one of the 'weaker' franchises rather than uproot a team with more established, loyal fans? The Saints are damn near a perfect fit for LA --- they don't even need to change the name to fit e.g. The Saints in the 'City of Angels'? I also think drafting Reggie Bush was a calculated move (frosting to his BPA status after Houston went with Williams).

Is there a fund set up to help get The Saints moved to LA? I'll donate.
Draconator Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 The only people who want a football team in LA are Raider fans who hope Big Al brings them back. Personally, I'm hoping all Raider fans just give up and move to Oakland. 717023 NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 What? Everybody's at the beaches... bitchin'! 717681 He lives in Salt Lake
Nanker Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 He lives in Salt Lake 718576 Case closed. That's the PERFECT city for the Saints to relocate to!
H2o Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 This actually still might not be the best of news for the Bills. If the Saints agreement is breached, they might end up in Oklahoma City the way the Hornets did. Did you see how the Oklahoma people took to the basketball team? They were a packed house every night. They would be the same way with a football team. If that is how it plays out, which I think is a huge possibility, then L.A. would still be looking for a team.
Rubes Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Case closed. That's the PERFECT city for the Saints to relocate to! 719009 Perhaps, but I think they'd have to rename them the Elders or something.
Dr. Trooth Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Did you see how the Oklahoma people took to the basketball team? They were a packed house every night. They would be the same way with a football team. What kind of ticket prices were they charging? Also, owners aren't interested in "packing the house" because it's shareable revenue. What they want is a stadium with 500 luxury boxes at 100K-150K a pop and enough general seating to fit 40,000 fans. Can Oklahoma City Pony up for that? And... will Jerry Jones allow another owner to cut into his territory?

He would still be in a larger television market (37 vs. 43). Along with the sale of luxury boxes--which owners covet--there is also the matter of increasing the television universe, another primary reason small market owners seek larger territories. Local broadcasting rights are not included in the revenue sharing formula. You get to make more money selling these rights in New York than in Idaho.
fairweather fan Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Stop triffling with this moving to LA gibberish unless you're talking about the Pats.Kraft is simply trying to get the best package possible from them before making the midnight Mayflower move. They don't make the playoffs this year, they'll be The Southern California Patriots of San Bernadino County by the ProBowl. By the way, is there a San Bernadino County? 717168 Right, the owner who bought the patriots to keep them out of St. Louis, and spent 400 million of his own money on a stadium, he now wants it empty? Are you still smoking that much weed at your age?
